Hi I am getting the following error:-

When I go into the Desktop App I get "Unable to connect to the remote server".
Therefore, NexPVR is not recording any scheduled programs.

The web interface http://localhost:8866/ is not not currently working for me.

I think "C:\Program Files\NextPVR\NextPVRService.exe" starts the web server (http://localhost:8866), however, that is a guess from me.

If i go to "Services" in Windows 10 - The Status for "NextPVR Service" is blank.

If i manually tell Windows to run “NextPVR Service", i get the following error:-
Windows could not start the NextPVR Service service on Local Computer Error 193:0xc1

I was using Version: 5.2.7.220410
I upgraded to 6.1.1.221106 unfortunately upgrading to the latest version (as of Jan 2023) it did not fix it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
All of the Wiki help seems to be for much older versions of NextPVR, prior to the web interface.

Info - everything was working perfectly as of 7 days ago.

Thanks, in advanced for any assistance provided.

Make sure you don't have any file named NPVR.zip in the folder with the installer, create the folder C:\TEMP and rerun the install. If it fails zip the file install.txt that is created in C:\TEMP and send it too us.

The wiki is here https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki but you are correct some of the information from the older wiki have still not been migrated over.

Hi Martin, thanks for the quick response. I have tried your suggestion (create a folder C:\TEMP and rerun the install).
Unfortunately, it still does not work / same issue occurs.

Please find attached the zipped install.txt that was created in C:\TEMP.

Thanks for your help.

The install.txt looks ok ... until the failure. Are you running 64 bit or 32bit Windows?

Assuming 64bit I would run as admin to clean out an old service.

sc delete "NextPVR service"

then run the installer again, also as admin.

Hi Martin
I am running Windows 10 Pro 22H2 - System Type: -64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I have run "CMD" as an Admin and sc delete "NextPVR service", the result was:-
C:\WINDOWS\system32>sc delete "NextPVR service"
[SC] DeleteService SUCCESS

I confirmed in "Services" the deletion of  "NextPVR service"

I then run the installer again, as admin.
Unfortunatly i still have the same issue. Please find attached the zipped install.txt that was created in C:\TEMP.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Martin / Everyone.

I appear to have resolved the issue.
After reinstalling the WinTV (which came with my Hauppauge TV Hardware), I found that the same error (193:0xc1) occurred with the Hauppauge software that is started automatically by the Windows “services”.

After a bit of Googling I established that this is a known Microsoft Windows issue. An unknown piece of software added a file called “Program” (with no file extension e.g. no .txt or .doc) to the C:\ (Root directory).

I opened “C:\Program” in Notepad. The file only contained the following:-

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19044.2364]
© Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I therefore deleted “C:\Program”.
“NextPVR Service" now runs + the web interface http://localhost:8866/ also works.

I have attached a screenshot of the file that caused all of the issues.

In summary for anyone else who experiences the same issue as me and is skim reading through the above – Delete a file called “Program”  (with no file extension) on your C Drive Root Directory – i.e. “C:\Program”

Ok to close this thread.

I saw that yesterday, but didn't think to point it out. It doesn't have to be program doing the sometimes without thinking a user might try a copy from the command line as admin forgetting the double quotes.

copy somefile c:\program files

Glad you got it sorted.
