Is the desktop app included with the linux installation?

There is currently no supported desktop app for Linux. If you want the NextPVR GUI you can install Kodi with the KNEWC addon. It can autostart if you don't like the Kodi look and feel.

There is also an old UI client, the original nlite but it hasn't been updated in ages and you may have to built it yourself for you flavour of Linux.
