I have ripped my DVDs using DVDFab which includes he subtitles. I am able to use subtitles when using VLC to play the videos. However when playing the same videos from within NPVR I cannot see the subtitles.

How can I get subtitles to work in NPVR?

Which client? If you mean NextPVR.exe does ctrl-x do anything?

I am not using any addons such as Kodi.

Pressing ctrl + X brings up the same options as right clicking and choosing Subtitles. However whether no matter what option I choose subtitles do not appear, either with the right click or ctrl + x option.

You'd probably need to provide me a download link to a sample video file, so I can check it here.

I think Martin is correct. It looks like for the combination of Directshow components your machine is choosing to play this .mp4 file, I think it needs to have DirectVobSub installed.

EDIT: in addition to DirectVobSub, you may need this updated nextpvr.exe

I must be doing something wrong.

I have downloaded and installed DirectVobSub 2.41.7259 (which is supposedly the latest version). I have replaced nextpvr.exe with the one you provided but I am still not getting subtitles. I get subtitles from videos I have recorded, just not videos from created from my DVDs.

DirectVobSub (from the configuration options) seems to want to use a subtitle file (which I don't have) instead of reading the encoded subtitles into the mp4 file.
