Had an issue this morning with an EPG update.

My system wakes on a schedule at 07:50 then re-boots to get a clean start to the day.
The automatic EPG update is programmed to start at 08:15.
The USA F1 started recording at 08:00 on the 1st Satellite tuner. At 08:15 the EPG update started and the logs clearly show it tuned on the same tuner resulting in the recording being truncated to 15mins  Sad (earache from wife).

The 2nd Satellite tuner was not in use.

Whilst we do not usually have any recordings going on that would clash with the EPG update time, should NPVR have used the 2nd tuner rather than nicking the one being used for a recording?

It should't stop a recording. Can you post the logs so I can see what happened?

Sorry Sub, I updated to the latest release yesterday and the logs have already been over written  Sad

I'll set a recording for 08:00 tomorrow morning and see if the issue repeats.

It's a shame there isn't a mechanism to increase the number of retained logs (e.g. a config file setting) as by the time I catch up with a problem it's often the case the relevant logs are gone.

You have the habit of looking at the logs and posting things like "and the logs clearly showed ..." If you know there is an issue why not save the logs and post them with your initial report and let us see too?

If as part of your restart you clean them out, stop doing that too.

Martin,

I don't purge the logs but the daily restart and a couple of NPVR client crashes/restarts often means by the time my wife tells me there have been repeated client exits/restarts the relevant logs have already been overwritten.

Hence my question about whether there could be a future mod to allow an increase in the number of saved logs.

Another temporary option I'm considering is to start the client through a batch file which saves the logs to a zip file at every client start.

I'm always happy to post the logs when what's there covers the relevant time period.

That's good to know, just make sure when there are logs you post them when you report the issue. (ie like you forgot on this post) NextPVR.exe uses different logging and restart more often, every time you restart the client, crash or not so you might need your batch file.

I think the option to retain X number of logs is a good one, rather than just the 3? logs that NPVR retains at the moment.
I don't record that many shows but my (debug) logs for 1 month are only 7MB.

It is actually 4. The main problem is the zip file size for the forum, it will be a burden on the forum software which sub has to pay for.

Set a test recording from 08:00-08:30 this morning (Everyone Loves Raymond). At 08:15 the recording is truncated and NPVR takes over the tuner to update the EPG even though the other satellite tuner is free.

This indicates the problem is consistent.

Relevant logs attached.

I expect the faked Freesat guide scan won't try other tuners.

If this is solved the issue will remain on what should happen if all digital tuners are recording? Is NextPVR supposed to fail recording or fail a guide update? The current design philosophy is to not overlap recording and EPG updates.
