The UKTV channels change their name on Tuesday 16th July with the addition of “U&” in front of the existing name such as “U&Yesterday”! Goodness knows why the BBC decided to do this!

For Freesat and Freeview viewers the changes will happen automatically overnight! For NextPVR users I am uncertain how easy it is to correctly edit the existing setup which includes Channel Name, possible EPG name and Recurring Recordings. There will be some uncertainty afterwards it will all work as intended!!

For that reason I plan to delete all four channels and rescan for the channels with their new names. I currently use XMLTV EPG so that source will need editing. All that should be left to do is recreate the Recurring Recordings which should be reasonably easy for me as all but two items are in the current EPG! Afterwards it would be a good idea to delete all the Recurring Recordings that use the old channel names!

I would wait and see if the frequencies or PID's change and if they work just rename them and map XMLTV manually

Save your rescan for the next version when you can get rid of XMLTV.

Its a bit too early to be 100% certain but it all seems to be working as normal without doing anything after the channel renames overnight! The server made two Recurring Recordings on two of the renamed channels this morning. The only uncertainty is the XMLTV EPG on my server which may have been updated early this morning before the name change! Freesat EPG on my test server was and is still working OK after I forced an EPG update late this morning as a test!
King Of Sat has made no changes! So it looks like most of the software is using the channel PID and not the actual name!

The channel name isn't really used by NextPVR, it's mainly there for the user to read.

For the most part NextPVR just based on the channel sid and frequency etc. Thankfully it sounds like they didn't change these.

Thanks Sub! Just got to make sure XMLTV TV EPG from EPG Collector works tomorrow in case this morning's EPG Update was done before name change!
I am changing to Freesat EPG when the next version on NextPVR is released!

AFAIK it was purely a name change, I use the standard UK Freeview OTA EPG and checking today shows my NPVR still has a full 7 day EPG for the affected channels (after an epg update) Same with my Topfield STB which uses the same Freeview EPG. I probably won't bother editing the names, all they have done is prefix them with U&.
