So I've been recording things the last few days and enjoying the feature very much. However, after a few of the longer recordings (sports events that take 2.5hrs+) I've noticed that my computer suddenly starts the fan and temperatures go up very high - checking in task manager I can see that an instance of FFMPEG is using 100% CPU, yesterday I had 2 instances at the same time fighting for 50% each - there is nothing else going on with the computer at the time, other than just being used to record via NextPVR.

Is this related? Does NextPVR have some sort of post-record tasks that it runs which cause a spike in CPU usage like this?

Cheers![Image: 9hNCcOM.png][Image: giWEiKz.png]

You're probably talking about thumbnail/timing generation.

If you don't need thumbnails (like you're using a client that doesn't show them, or you dont care about them), you can turn them off on the Settings->General page.

These ffmpeg processes are run at low priority, so will only use this amount of CPU if it's available.

You might also need to turn off the timing file generation and that is in config.xml not in the web settings

Also, if you want to keep these files - you can have them run during the recording, and it's feed the data as it arrives, which means this activity is spread over a much longer time with lower CPU usage, rather than a short sharp spike at the end of the recording.

Alright thanks for the response Sub - I'll turn the thumbnail generation off and see if that makes a difference.

Oops, didn't see the last two responses before replying - good to know about generating it whilst recording, spreading the load, appreciate that theres multiple options.

In terms of the timing file - what exactly is that used for? Or is it generating timestamps within the video file itself?

The separate .timing file just gives more accurate seeking when playing back in NextPVR. This was more important when using thumbnails, because otherwise you'd often notice you'd end up nowhere near the thumbnail you selected.

It doesn't modify the timestamps in the video itself - these are still exactly as broadcaster sent them.

Just to be sure, in order to turn off the timing I simply need to flag this as false in the config file found in the NPVR-Data directory, as this screenshot shows?
