Apologies for all the questions recently.

I am importing a recording to Avidemux to remove the ad breaks - however I am receiving this error message, when trying to watch the stream in full in VLC, there is no issue - what is causing this error? (not the Avidemux telling me part, the error must exist as stated - I mean more, was it a hitch during recording? with my connection? why would nothing appear to be an issue during playback in something like VLC?)

Is there any way I can solve this so that I am able to import successfully into Avidemux to remove ads?

Thanks!

I don't think you can assume an mpeg2 stream has a constant resolution, audio or video format.

With all the good clients for NextPVR that support comskip maybe try it and if it is successful try comclean. It probably uses this type of change as a potential for an ad break.

Thanks for the response Martin - I've only heard of Comskip via people mentioning it on here in some old threads I found. Is this the correct Gihub? - https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip

I've not heard of ComClean but any direction to that would be great if at all possible, searching doesn't yield accurate results that I can find.

I've only been using the web based client so far and then just viewing the files in VLC or Avidemux after the fact - are these comcut/skip/clean features that are applied to a recording after the fact? or do they need to run concurrently to the live recording in order to detect the commercials?

Going to take a look through the wiki now

I would check out the NextPVR UI clients and Kodi They are direct play and don't put the resources on the server the web player does. Comskip can run parallel or after recording but it also uses ffmpeg to process the file. If you have commercial free stations you might need to modify scripts to not process everything.

Yes that is the correct comskip. I leave it to you search for comclean. Basically with a good comskip file it removes the commercials at the cut points. With a good player you don't need to cut them, they disappear during playback but give flexibility in case the cuts were bad.

Okay thanks, I'm not having much joy here. My workflow is basically record the program, remove the commercials before it gets put on a drive and connected to my console, it'll only ever be played through xbox media player or something most likely as it's just sports replays I'm using mostly. So I won't need to make use of the run in parallel or of the players that can handle the more graceful method of simply skipping the ads in playback via the information provided by comskip, right? I would need to find the secondary software which works in conjunction with comskips identifier files for the commercials, takes those and removes the commercials then gives me back a new edited .ts file that I can do with as I see fit - as I understand it?

Been searching for comclean but can't find anything resembling that on github - found something called comchap and comcut which seem to be for Linux but someone has made a powershell script which I cannot get going, so will continue to look for alternatives both on github and here on the forum from previous posts etc.

Kodi runs on newer XBOX, and there are around 15 clients for NextPVR that run on many h/w platform. Basically I support those clients and NextPVR itself and not what users do with their files afterwards who want to leave the pretty solid infrastructure. Maybe try MCEBuddy http://www.mcebuddy2x.com/ or maybe someone else can help. What you are doing seems like a waste of effort to me for watching sports. Seeking around commercials is pretty easy.

Good luck hunting.
