I live in St. John's on the island of Newfoundland, in Canada. Seven years ago, I successfully used NextPVR and SchedulesDirect to watch the two local channels: CBC at 8.1 and CJON (NTV) 21.1. Every time I have scanned for channels on my HDHOMERUN, the NTV station has not been detected. I reported this to Tablo tech support who told me there was a "protocol error" and I gave up using my TABLO tuner. This device appears to have been bricked a few months ago when I attempted to investigate further. I understand that Ottawa-based TABLO no longer support Canadian users (what odds?).

Television sets don't care about an EPG so their scans detect both stations. NTV are locally notorious for not managing the volume levels between commercials and their broadcast stream. I will call them out for this violation of the terms of their broadcast license but that is a separate issue.

I tested the scan on my HDHomeRun EXTEND HDTC-2US and NTV is not detected. I can watch the broadcast from NTV if I run "HDHomeRun Config GUI" and specify Channel us-bcast 21.1. I reported this to support on the SiliconDust forum and was told to rerun the scan with logging turned on. I sent them the log and was told that the broadcaster isn't running their PSIB generator. I reported this to the station twice and received no response. I would like to write an article for a local community newspaper for anyone who wishes to cut the cord. Cable with a PVR costs about $60/month and many seniors can't afford to pay this much.

I read that it is possible to manually add a channel but the instructions are written for the Linux file system. Does anyone have a description of the Windows configuration file layout?

Please HELP me add the channel manually.

My TabloTV still works here in Ottawa, the company actually moved to the US MAGA?

What does Silicondust say and their scan find it?

I found your post on the SD forum https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/view...p?p=401046 and they didn't offer much help.

Did you try an ATSC scan in NextPVR instead on and HDHR scan? Use the attached as a reference and save in "C:\Program File\NextPVR\data\tuning\ATSC\ATSC NF.ini" to speed things up.

Code:
[CABTYPE]
1=ATSC
2=ST Johns

[DVB]
0=2
1=8,0,0
2=21,0,0

TABLO was purchased by a larger company. Details are online somewhere.
I reported this to support on the SiliconDust forum and was told to rerun the scan with logging turned on. I sent them the log and was told that the broadcaster isn't running their PSIP generator.
broadcast does not include PSIP which is part of the ATSC 1.0 protocol.

PSIP = Program and System Information Protocol

See ATSC  Document A/69:2009, 25 December 2009

The complete response from jasonl at SiliconDust

It looks like CJON/NTV's PSIP generator isn't working. This is the device that inserts the channel names and numbers, among other things, into the broadcast. You may want to contact the engineering group at the station and ask them to check on it. At most stations, it's the single most unreliable piece of equipment in the entire place, and some of them need to get rebooted every few weeks to keep things operational.

Scan in NextPVR with the tuning file I posted above and then zip and send you npvr.db3 and I might be able to hack in CJON if NextPVR doesn't find a channel.

Thanks a lot for that. As I said, I had NPVR working years ago, but the information is long since lost to the sands of time.

Scanning ATSC with an HDHR and NextPVR is quite easy when you have some time to try. It is probably easier than your remember (ignore the guide data for now)

Can you replace your npvr.db3 with the one in the attached and we shall see.  I did have to guess because the data on RabbitEars is 4 yeas old.  If it doesn't work go into the Silicondust GUI where you scanned frequency 21 and hit down arrow on Program and let me know what you see.

Don't do any EPG update just see if they play and if they do then you can do the EPG update.  The guide source isn't going to be good, looks like you only get a few hours which for CBC is too bad.

Thanks. I installed your updated db3 file and was able to see the channels. I have a problem playing them in the web page - too slow to keep up. The NextPVR Client reports "Missing audio? You don't have a AC3 decoder selected. You can fix this on the Settings->Decoders Screen"

I see s Settings->Transcoder but not a decoder.
