Hardware: Windows 11 HTPC, Avermedia 716x (dual tuner)
Version: v7.0.0.241105
Problem: I am using DVB/ATSC as my EPG source. If I do an EPG scan/update during a recording, the recording will change to whatever channel is being scanned (so I get one minute of each channel). At the end of the EPG scan, the recording stays on the last channel scanned. Fairly certain this is a new behavior in v7, since I know I have done this successfully in the past. It's a dual tuner card, so I would think that if I'm only recording one channel, it should be able to scan using the other tuner.

It’s not new to 7.x. You’re best to keep your EPG update time in the middle of the night or some time you expect it to be free.

I have the same exact problem, but only on my new setup with NextPVR V7.0.0.241105 on windows 11, Hauppage HD-Quad

I have another older setup with NextPVR V6.1.5.231022 on windows 7 and Hauppage HD-Dual.  On this older system I have went through many NextPVR releases and never came across this issue.  This system worked for many years and still works but I would like to retire it.

Would it help tp switch my new system to windows 10? Please help.

@SavoBravo as sub said it is not new. Upload your zipped logs and we can explain further.

Martin - Thanks for your response.
Here are the zipped logs for the old system and the new system.  A couple of things to note:
OLD system:
- The old system has been disconnected (no antenna) since Nov, 5/2024.
- I have used this old system since 2017 with the same EPG configuration (DVB/ATSC, updating every 2 hours) and never came across this issue.

New system
- There is a lot of activity in the new system logs for many recording because I have been struggling to diagnose and troubleshoot this problem since Nov, 5/2024.
- Once I figured out that EPG update is the issue, I came to the forum and found this thread with the same exact description of what's happening on my new system.

Thank you very much for your help.  I greatly appreciate it.

The main difference I can make out is v7 is using tuner 0 for the EPG update and previously it used tuner 1 which might cause issues with recordings. You can change that and move tuner 0 lower in the priority so recordings go on tuner 1. It won't help if like today you are recording and watching Live TV when the EPG triggers.

However that solution isn't perfect you don't have all channels on all your tuners. WGBH wasn't found on tuner 0 as one example. You might want to clean up your tuners.

The big problem of course is your EPG update every two hours and the fact that it takes 8-16 minutes to do so you have don't have a big window of having 2 tuners available, here is time lost today while your testing. You through in an extra to make it worse.

Code:
2024-11-22 14:11:58.642    [DEBUG][27]    About to do DVB EPG update
2024-11-22 14:27:17.099    [INFO][27]    Finished updating EPG

Martin - Thank you for your help.

- I'm not sure how to clean the tuners as you suggest. How do I do that?

- I will change the priority of tuner 0 as you suggest.

- I will change the EPG update from 2hrs to 4hrs. and the scan time from 60-sec to 30-sec. Unfortunately, I cannot go beyond the 4hrs intervals because of the limitation of the availability of EPG info in my area.

- Is there anything else I can do to help the situation.  e.g. change the OS from win11 to win10 or to Linux -OR- change the Hauppage Quad tuner to another brand.

- Is there a way to lock the EPG update on one tuner and just use a other 3 tuners for watching and recording?

Again, thank you so much for your help.

Don't change ATSC to 30 seconds, some ATSC updates only come every minute.

With a quad tuner you could move tuner 0 second from last, then you get Live TV and 2 recording will doing the EPG update. I hadn't thought about that trick until I saw a user's post last week.

Really is it worth all that hassle to save the less then $3 a month to get Schedules Direct subscription? Certainly would be simpler and require less support and worry.

Basically to clean similar tuners, make sure one is good, and then for the others enter them on the Device screen, hit the trash can to remove the channels, on all but the good one, and then go back into them which will copy the good tuner. Remember to do this on rescans too.

Martin - I can't thank you enough for your valuable input and advise.
About moving the tuner 0 to be second to last (i.e. 3rd place).... wouldn't be better to move it to last place (i.e. 4th place)... did I misunderstood this part of your answer?
Thank you,

The default in NextPVR is to record from the top down and Live TV from the bottom up. There is a config.xml setting to start Live TV at the top.
