Using my Sky Q dish for Freesat (UK), what do I need?

I have the Kathrein SatIP server. It will work with a wideband LNB out of the box (as well as unicable and quad/quattro) and provides eight tuners. Its manual is here:

I've no complaints about it (other than it being expensive).

My understanding is that with the correct splitter you can split the two wideband signals (though I don't have any personal experience, I use a quattro LNB).

Did you have to worry about getting the H and V feeds round the right way on the Kathrein and if so how do you tell which is which?  I don't think it matters on the SkyQ box.

I use a quattro LNB so I had to get the four feeds correct (High H, Low H, High V, Low V), that required a certain degree of trial and error.

With only two cables (H and V) surely it will be just a matter of try one way and if the channel scan is producing what you expect (a few hundred channels) then swap them round and try again.

I can only speak from direct experience with my kit. I've never damaged a quattro lnb plugging it into the wrong port.

No, reversing the connection of wideband cables on a satellite receiver will not damage the receiver. Wideband LNBs, while having a single local oscillator, still output signals on separate frequency ranges for horizontal and vertical polarizations, but they don't have distinct high and low bands. Reversing the cables simply means you'll be switching the horizontal and vertical signal streams, which will result in an incorrect picture, but not damage to the receiver.
