I've got fed up with the problems of using the output of the PVR-350 with locking up, and Subs announcement that no further development is planned although I love the quality on screen

I've gone through all the MVP threads here and read the info in the wiki and am thinking about getting a MVP.

I know I can't play DVDs through the MVP but what features of the lastest versions of GBPVR i.e multi speed FF and aspect ratio control are not available when using the MVP?

I have 2 350s and a MVP.

I'm not quite sure about the aspect ratio etc. - haven't had a reason to play with it.

But one thing you get better working on the MVP is FFW/REW & Skip both directions which isn't running very well on the 350 (at least not reverse).

On top pf that you get a totally silent, small frontend that will allow you to put your PC with the 350 anywhere (and somwhere where the noise is not an issue).

I'm seriously contemplating getting another MVP for the bedroom - sub is seriously affecting the amount of HW i feel a need to buy... :p

I am new to this forum....thinking about replacing the look of my MediaMVP box.
WHy would you replace your -350 with MVP? I have both. I use the -350 to record on my PC and the MVP to view remotely on my TV. JUst trying to make sure I understand. Maybe you use the -350 for playback.....

I only use MVP for video playback. This app seems pretty complex for just that.

I've not paid attention to the MVP at all, until now, and now I am wondering what advantages/disadvantages it has too. The price is lower than I thought. It would be handy to play more than one thing at a time. I currently use the 350, and may still use it, just need to figure out what this MVP thing is all about

The Hauppauge MediaMVP allows you play your "multimedia collection" anywhere in the house you have a TV/stereo. Personally, I record TV on my machine in my basement and have a MediaMVP connected to TV upstairs (connected by ethernet obviously). I only use it for video. It works OK, its just very slow to respond for some reason.....I dont really know how it works; but it seems to me it ought to work alot better (ie. faster) given all the compute cycles laying around between my 1.8GHz P4 and the CPU in the MediaMVP! I am pretty sure the MediaMVP decodes video in the box. But, for DivX support, I think they transcode it to something the box can decode.

I try to use the 350 for playback, when it works the quality is brilliant, when it decides to play up its a pain in the a**e Rolleyes

As I understand it, you want to replace the 350 with a MVP for playback, as you can't be without the 350 for recording.

Anyway - the MVP give you a lot of degrees of freedom with placement of your recording PC. It shouldn't be significantly slower than your PC as indicated above - stevenjwilson must have some kind of local issue.

You basically get the full GBPVR functionality available in a 3 CD-size totally silent box whereever you can get to with Ethernet (cabled or wireless).

Regarding the 350 playback issues, I assume you have been trying some of the newer drivers? How does it 'play up' exactly?

i'm using a pvr-350. in my case i have just random lockups.
the whole machine goes bye-bye, not just the card itself or the gbpvr. in this case i can only push reset or pull the plug.

looking into the logs reveals absolutely nothing (in my case at least). no errors, no warnings... the system simply just died.

lockups occured when:
zapping through channels [too fast...]
when a recording was finished (sometimes)
out of nowhere (e.g. watching live tv) (very rarely)

using the newest drivers showed some improvement... but i still have lockups about one every two weeks.

but at least no more random lookups when im not at home :-)
the locks occure now 'only' when i'm zapping... but as said: not very often. the 'fast zapping' seems not be as bad as earlier).

it is not a heat issue and _not_ the via-bug mentionend in this forum (my machine has an intel-chipset)

'cause the source code of the driver is not available, gbpvr is also (sadly) closed source, and due to the fact that sub will not investigate this further, we pvr-350-user will have either to live with that or buy other hardware.
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Ditto problems I've had enough it spoils my experience of GBPVR

Its not just GBPVR that has problems with this card, don't see the point in Sub spending all his time trying to get this card to work correctly when it appears to be a Hauppague driver issue when there are so many other improvements to GBPVR that he can work on its not as if its the only way to view recordings.
