The number of remote controls have now exceeded the space of my coffe table, so I have decided to get a jp1 - one-for-all remote control.

Anyone that have any recommendations for what model to buy? The ones I've been looking at havn't been cheap, so I'd love to buy the right one straight away... Wink

Haven't heard about jp1?? Checkout www.hifi-remote.com/jp1

It depends on what you look for in a remote I suppose - I don't think you have to go to too high-priced a model, as I have been using the the One-For-All 7560 for three or four years now, and really like it. I built a jp1 cable earlier this year for it, which came in very useful for updating to a few new pieces of equipment/writing macros etc.

It wasn't the most expensive of remotes (about US$35), but I prefer it to the LCD ones, because it has the advantage of being able to be used by touch - ie. you don't have to look down at some changing screen, but can physically feel your way to the correct buttons in the dark.

However, looking at the US One-For-All site, that particular model doesn't seem to be available from them any more - on the New Zealand site, the URC-7562 appears to be the current version of the 7560, but isn't listed on the US site. Not sure what would be the closest version to it (6 devices, learning functionality), and the current models appear to have gone away from the style I like (ie. now have many similarly-sized oval buttons, rather than the easily-differentiable ones on mine) on the other hand, there are more buttons available, although the lack of four GB-PVR coloured buttons at the bottom of the remote is annoying.

You might want something more flash, or you could find the 7562 where you live (appears to be easily available in Europe/Oceania, maybe under a different name in the US).

cheers,

tieke

I've been using the URC-9910 as the default remote for every system in the living room. I've been rather happy with it, except that the RF range of the remote receiver is problematic. For me its worked out that I can put the receiver in the living room and run the extra IR blaster to the GBPVR machine sitting in the garage.

Programming the URC-9910 (and building a simple parrallel JP1 cable [for ~$3.50]) was simple.

Finding the remote definition files that worked exactely how I wanted them to work was somewhat difficult. I eventually gave up and learned how to use the learning function of the URC-9910 to learn the signals and then download them to the PC (using ir.exe). Once there it was fairly simple to create my own remote definition file (using remotemaster) that included ALL of the old remote's keys. After that you then can choose the layout of keys on the remote. After all that simply upload them back to the URC-9910 and away you go......

I have not taken the plung and upgrade the remote using the avialable extension, but I am planning to in the near future. Should give me control over the LCD and some of the other buttons.

Look around on the net for a good price. I think I got mine at Amazon.com for ~34.95 and free shipping.

If enough people are interested I suppose I could post the remote definition file I have for the 45 button hauppauge remote. Actually, I may just go over to the wiki page and do some kind of write-up on it later tonight or Friday.

Thanks for your reply. Since I already have 6 units (projector,dvd-player,mvp,sound-system,TV,Sat), I've decided to go for URC-8910 (or maybe 9910) that can handle eight. But now I can't seem to find anyone shipping it to Europe (Sweden). The closest I could get was someone offering it for about $50 and asking $80 for shipping!!!

Anyone know where to buy it to get it shiped to Europe?

(This forum is really sluggish at this time of the day...)
