As you all know, we'd been having problems with poor performance several times a day on the web server that hosted http://forums.gbpvr.com. I've now moved the forums to a different box. Performance seems much better to me, but I'd be interested to hear how you've been finding it?

I'm also curious to hear whether people have accessed this site through http://forums.gbpvr.com or if they're having to use a direct URL? It may take a while for your machine to pickup the DNS changes, but I'm hoping to hear some people already have the correct DNS entries.

yeah i had to use the direct url (http://gbpvr.titaniumsoft.net/.forums.gbpvr.com/), but performance is a lot better, i accidently clicked the wrong button, and on the old server i would've had time to click the right one before the page changed, but now i dont. its too fast....

sub....I am not getting there without the direct link. It appears the propagation is fairly fast.

Am using the direct url at the moment but performance is noticably faster. all the previous sluggishness is gone. Smile

Sounds like everyone pretty much agrees that its a big performance improvement.

I'm also feeling a little more comfortable now, as I noticed my local cached DNS entries seem to be corrected themselves and I can now get to the forums through http://forums.gbpvr.com. Its just a matter of waiting for the Time To Live to expire the old DNS entries, then everyone should get this.

If you search, there are ways to disable the DNS cache in XP, or make it update much more often.

Btw, it is better so far. Used to a lot of bottlenecks at this hour.

yeah, you can do something like "ipconfig /flushdns", but I didnt want people to have to do this, and I wasnt sure how long it would take without it.
