don't know, if it's the right place, if not, feel free to move the thread...

since the next my music release will have a db and won't play cda any more i had the idea to create a tiny plugin which does nothing other than playing audio-cd's.
i have found an easy way to open and close drive-doors, to lookup the discid, so this can be used to lookup discinfo from freedb, get album art and so on.
this would be automated (if configured), so all you have to do is open the drive-door, lay in the cd, close the door and hit play. with the option to play randomly, repeat......

i don't know yet, if i should use the gbpvr-pluginhelper for playing the cd. for this you'll need to register .cda as audio and so on. but the track - info could be displayed via the music panel or va-panel, which won't work with a non-cda solution.

two questions:
- is it possible, to tell gbpvr, that something is playing or will that mean creating another panel for cd-playback?
- is the interest in such a plugin high enough?

Why would the DB stop MyMusic from playing a CD? They're two totally different things arent they? Just have a section which plays music CDs in the menu...keep things totally integrated.

Am I nuts in this...shouldn't it just be grab the CDDB info from the CD, display, and play? I would think it would actually be easier then the mp3 handling...right?

Also, does the build in DVD player do this right now (play cd's)?

my music 3 doesn't handle .cda-files. it works with a database. music not listed in the db won't be displayed. you have to manually update the database, when you want to add new tracks. this is what reven says in the my music 3 beta - thread in the developers - forum.

i don't know, if the built in dvdplayer does play cd's. never tested. maybe i'll try...no it doesn't. so you have two options: add the cd to the directory of a music plugin (not my music 3) and register the cda-files or have an extra plugin handle this.

I would definitely use a CD-player plugin - it would let me get rid of another box from the top of my amplifier for those times when I just want to play a couple of tracks from a CD I haven't bothered to rip yet.

cheers,

I agree I would definately use it. I'm actually really keen on seeing any plugins that enhance GBPVR to the point where people would want to use it regardless of having a PVR-card and simply for the nice "information/feature portal".

i'll post some alpha-version in this forum, so everyone can try.

dottore if you dont want to bother you no longer have to, i changed the "Copy CD" option to "audio cd" which lists the songs on the current audio cds (cda files) with the correct tags (if looked up from freedb) in my music 3 (there seemed to be enough interest for it).

Then please write a plugin which also plays audioCDs with data tracks. That would mean no cda files where visible because the data track would be displayed instead. I think myMusic 3 will still not be able to hadle those cds.

how can i try audio-cd's with data tracks? i don't know, if i have any... i think, my plugin will play audio-cd's with or without data-track and leave the data-track untouched. but i'll have to try.

ok than, i'll give it a go!
