Can you complain to your ad provider?

Can you complain to your ad provider? I almost clicked on one because it said "Log In" or maybe it was "Sign In". I thought maybe I'd been logged out somehow. That is deceptive as hell! Hopefully they'll give it more weight coming from you, but then they are giant soulless corporations, so who knows?

Users and PM'ing

Sub, a user sent me a PM (two actually) and although I responded with my typical reply that I don't support via PM I was annoyingly told that the users had disable PMs. Does the forum allow you to make a rule so users can't sent PM's unless they allow PMs?

With some recent change on the the New Posts logic has changed. Before I could see all messages in one day based on storing a sid, now New Posts is truly New posts and if you open a post it will disappear. It makes it almost impossible to do a quick scan of all new posts.

Is there anyway to change this back to the old behaviour?

Forum Email Notifications not working for me

I never get email notifications, although I think I have it set up right. The threads I am subscribed to say "Notification Method: Instant Email Notification" and I have an email address provided. Any suggestions?

Any chance of getting page navigation at the top of threads as well as the bottom ?
If your using a mobile device and want to read a multi page thread it's extremely difficult to tap the last page number, most times you end up on page 1, then have to scroll to the bottom ofcthe page to be able to navigate to the last page. Gets annoying having to do this all the time, not to mention the time wasted.

Can't post to forum on Android tablet or phone

If I open the forum in either, there is no visible top bar. It says NextPVR Forums and nothing else. In Windows it works fine.

If I switch to desktop view, nothing changes.

Upcoming wiki changes v7

I am planning to update the wiki with some changes for v7 but I thought some of you might benefit from having some of my planning info here. If you'd like something changes on the wiki let me know too.

1. EPG mapping

It is possible to map a tuner to multiple EPG types. Automap will only map devices that are set to None. To make a make a global change to a tuner, you need to first automap all to None and then make the change. This is especially important for changing ATSC (previously None) and changing UK DVB-S and SAT>IP to Freesat

For digital tuner you can map by name or number for the OTA data.

You you merge DVB-T, DVB-S and SAT>IP and unmerge you may need to reset the EPG data.

2. SAT>IP

Normally NextPVR doesn't direct the SAT>IP tuner that is used by the server. If you want to control the tuners perhaps to share with other backends you need to edit config.xml

before doing your SAT>IP scan. It is not known if all servers support this function.

3. NextPVR.exe and UI clients

a. Live TV timeline function

There are two modes to the EPG timeline. The default mode is to have the current time shown on the left with the bar showing how much prebuffer is available. Alternatively you can change config.xml true and have a more traditional timeline, with the earliest prebuffer time on the left and the future buffer end time on the right. With a long prebuffer time the right time could be the start time

Additionally the program details for the Live TV being watched will match the show on the timeline not the live TV and moves with the cursor. The timeline will indicate program changes with a dash

b. Skipping

Skipping in recordings and Live TV default to moving a cursor and not the recording if there is no thumbnail. If you want to also move the recording using true in config.xml

Note v7 removed the timeout and skin that left just the timeline on the screen, now you get the complete OSD.

4. ATSC OTA EPG

The ATSC guide is available on all platforms and with Silicondust and digital tuners. However the quality of the data can vary a lot by channel. It can be 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day or 1 week for the same broadcast region.

ATSC scanning is slow the default is 60 seconds per channel but really it probably should be a little more for ATSC since some data is only updated every 60 seconds so if you think there should be more try setting 70

ATSC scanning can also be long typically with 10-20 physical channels it can take 15 or 20 minutes. First time users might want to wait to do the EPG scan until after checking the channels they receive.

5. IPTV updates

Channel updates will default to not adding new channels with method=setting.m3u.update

Document uidroid on wiki

I note that there is no mention of uidroid on the "other clients" wiki page.

The wiki page states that Android client "can be used on phones/tablets and Android TV devices" whereas the forum description says "Post questions relating to the Android Phone/Tablet app here" (no mention of use on a TV)
I don't know if the Android client works well on a TV as I've never tried it but my assumption is that uidroid is "the" client app that owners of android TV's should be using.

Android TVs is the most widely adopted TV platform yet the forum page for uidroid lives under NextPVR Other Clients > Android.
I think it would be better to re-organise the forums so that there is a forum specific to ALL Android devices called "NextPVR Android Clients" or "NextPVR Android and Android TV Clients" (like the forum that exists for all Apple devices).

Version 5 wiki

Hi I am looking for some volunteers to help inaugurate a wiki for V5. I think it will be a great time saver for new users and those of us on the forum that want to help new and old users alike. I'd rather post a link then retype something and I am sure some users would like to RTFM which we don't have.

The new proposed wiki will use the markdown language a really simple way of formatting text I find easier then forum post formatting. Here is an intro https://guides.github.com/features/mastering-markdown/ hyperlinks.

I suggest that users use a free text editor like VS Code with a markdown plugin on any platform, or Notepad++ and the Markdown Viewer plugin.

It's going to pretty free form for a while as the section and sub sections get worked on but I think it will settle down into a usable style soon enough.

We can worry about how to submit the .md (that is the typical markdown extension) later.

NPVR documentation for NScriptHelper.exe

I've gathered some info on the batch helper utility NScriptHelper.exe. Unfortunately, my id has expired on the Wiki and cannot add the page to the Utility section. If someone has the time and access, here is the content I was planning to add:

NScriptHelper.exe is a helper utility which is part of the core NPVR package. The utility provides a command line (i.e. batch) interface which can query the NPVR recording service. The executable can be found in the NPVR executables location.

Below lists the functions and calling syntax as of NPVR 3.1.1

DVB Fix

Dear all,

we know about it, we've picked up on it and I really want to try to document it. Because I am bored having to remind myself about it let alone seeing posts where someone says have you tried the DVB Fix!

DVB Fix.

Is this only relevant to XP users? (I believe so)
All very well and good pointing to a MP link but that link may change and that is boring and tedious to find that it is a missing link.
I 'think' I can speak on sub's behalf here to say that I suspect he would not like to host any M-Soft files on his server (sub?)

ideas anyone?

New Wiki Look & skin?

It's a long story and I won't bore you with it In full. So short version...

After conversation with Blader it was suggested that maybe Wiki could get skin overhaul.

After seeing Hairy's new front end webpage did a mock up entirely based on his look and feel.

So this is nicked from him, completely!

This is mock up of new skin for wiki, just done in photoshop. Everything remains content and layout wise the same, just a new look?

Comments? (But only positive!!!)

Have I missed anything you would expect to see on the homepage??? Even though didn't put any homepage detail in....
