Basically, NextPVR works on two different machines, however there is a delay problem. The main menu of the UI comes up very quickly. However, when I try to access other menu items, like "TV guide", or "Recordings", or "What's New", there are lengthy (~ 20 second) delays before the program responds. As far as I can tell, all functionality is working OK, other than the delays. I have the Schedules Direct service, and my EPG is properly updated in the evenings. When I open the TV guide, although some programming items are subject to the same kind of delay previously mentioned, pop-ups come up eventually.

See the attached log below, at or around line 32. You will see it takes around 20 seconds to bring up the "TV Guide" menu. Other menu access is similarly delayed. I see delays when I bring up the UI, and try to load "Recordings", and after successfully bringing up the guide, some random programs produce a 20 second delay before bringing up a pop-up after a program is selected. The second time those menus are accessed, sometimes they are *not* delayed.

I have Windows 11 machines. I have a NAS drive; program recordings are saved to the NAS. I tried changing the recording locations to the local C: drive (thinking that the NAS access somehow was the issue), and that made no difference. Still lengthy delays. Also, when in the web interface settings app, the directory structure after entering the IP address of the NAS pops up instantly. (I put the NAS address in, and I get a dialog box with the various alternative directories on the NAS.)

It seems like there is something is timing out somewhere to a default or something. I am unable to figure this out. I am hoping for some help! Let me know if you have ideas on how to fix this issue (that occurs on both my machines on the same local network). In the log file, the delay seems to happen after the message "calculated resource directory:" (This directory is stored on drive C:, a solid state drive, not my NAS). See line 33.

I have only 85 channels in my EPG, and it's updated using Schedules Direct. I have Hauppauge tv receivers in both machines.

Any ideas what may be causing the delays??

Many thanks for any help!!

I am trying to figure out the cause of playback hiccups on my system.

They look like momentary signal loss, but it is happening on local channels, and I have watched a signal meter and it looks like the signal quality is excellent and steady.

Accordingly, I wonder if it may have something to do with writing to storage. My recordings are written to a USB3 external hard drive. Is there any kind of buffer that receives the data before writing to disk? Is it configurable?

Trying to record to a local NAS from a Windows 10 installation of NextPVR.
I mapped network drive, F:, to the IP of the NAS 192.168.50.4. In NextPVR, I am unable to see drive F under settings "General" and "Recording Directory." I read that I need to switch NextPVR Service from Local System account to a user account, which I did. While I am able to record locally with that changed, I still am unable to see the F drive when trying to change the recording directory.

I have tried manually entering the location, "\\192.168.50.4\Recordings or "D:\Recordings" all of which do not record to.

I saw that there was a thread from 2009 about a utility called ShareHelper but have been unable to find an actual download for that (I could not find it on the wiki).

Any advice on this would be appreciated.
My provider has some channels with no EPG, and the programming information for the day in the channel name. Accordingly this name changes every day. I'm wondering if there's a way to schedule a nightly refresh of the device channels (not the EPG) so this can always be kept current.
I've looked around, but haven't been able to find a specific guide that works for this.

I just did a fresh install of NextPVR on Unraid/Docker

I added an IPTV device using "Import using XC"

My m3u has tvg-chno fields which should be all unique. Example:

Code:

#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="112" tvg-name="30A Darcizzle Offshore (720p)" tvg-logo="http://192.168.67.3:9191/api/channels/logos/6304/cache/" tvg-chno="112" group-title="Dispatcharr",30A Darcizzle Offshore (720p)

Expected behavior: Channels appear in NextPVR with the tvg-cho channel numbers
Observed behavior: Channel numbers in NextPVR start at one and increment sequentially instead of using the tvg-cho numbers. They do appear to be sorted by tvg-cho (or maybe just the order they appear in the m3u?)

I have attached logs, though I'm not certain if this is a bug or working as designed. I had assumed the channel numbers would show up because IIRC HDHR channels numbers were mapped correctly when I did that in the past.

Hey all, I just wanted to ask if it would at all be possible to expose the full mux for applications outside of NextPVR where currently we expose a url directly for a specific channel from the mux, having full access to the raw mux stream would be a dream. I'm still pretty new to the scene so apologies if my request is a load of bollocks, I experimented with TVHeadend which I believe exposes the full mux but it's Linux only I believe and it's pretty iffy. I'd be happy to support the development if this is something that's possible, thanks in advance.

Hey folks,

I set up comskip to run in parallel. I'll start playback 45-60 mins into a recording, and NextPVR will read from the EDL, and skip commercials, just like it's supposed to. Over time, NextPVR will gradually start the commercial skips earlier and earlier in time -- by the time I'm at the 2 hour (ish) mark, commercials are being skipped 5-10 seconds early, cutting off that much of the program (and playing that much of the commercial at the end of the skip period). If I stop playback and re-start from my saved position, commercials start getting skipped at the right time again. If I let the program finish and then start playback, the skip locations are correct from start to finish.

Any idea what's going on, and how I can fix?

I'm using Kodi with the NextPVR PVR Client addon. I've tested most on a Vero V OSMC device. My client is set to "Timeshift" Live TV Method, with a Pre-buffer time of 3 seconds, Live TV chunk size of 64, and Recording chunk size of 32 (I don't know what these options mean, btw, so if they're suboptimal, lmk). My device is on a local hardwired LAN with plenty of bandwidth between server & client.

The NextPVR server is running in the custom container published by @Ranbato , but I've been experiencing this behavior for years while I was running NextPVR on bare metal -- never brought it up before b/c it was just me using the frontend. Now family is getting involved ...

I thought I'd try the SD 7 day trial. I've only tried once and it messed up a lot of stuff. Despite specifying UK, it download and imported a lot of channel/show data with German show titles and incorrect timings. I reverted to OTA EPG updates, emptied the EPG and manually updated - everything looked OK but several shows failed to record that night and the next day or two (this was earlier in the week and I haven't tried since).

Is it possible to see what npvr downloads BEFORE it imports so I can check it's valid? I had an email from SD this morning my trial finishes on Monday and I haven't really had a chance to see what it can do.

Cheers,

Could you explain a little more about the /buffer directory?

Hi,

I've been running NextPVR on bare metal for some time, and now I'm switching to a Docker container. In doing so I'm learning more about NextPVR.

I think I understand that the /buffer dir is used to store a temporary (partial) copy of the mpeg stream being sent to the client. I think I understand it is also used to store the mpeg data stream being written as it is being recorded. Once the client is done playing back the buffered copy is destroyed; or when the recording finishes, the file in the buffer directory is written to the /recordings directory.

... do I have that right?

I'm asking b/c I'm trying to optimize the mappings of these directories to docker volumes / bind mounts. I currently have /recordings on a spinning-disk array, and I was thinking of putting /buffer onto an SSD, if that would make the experience snappier for clients. I have much more spinning disk space than I have SSD space, not surprisingly. For a machine that might at-most record 2 3-hour-long football games at a time
in 1080i at 15Mbps, and play back to 2 clients at a time, how much space would you think the /buffer dir need?

Thanks in advance
