I set up NextPVR last week because I was fed up with the terrible delay with internet streams of TV, which is most annoying during the World Cup and Euros. If you're watching iPlayer (or, god forbid, ITVX) when England are playing, you may as well give up on being surprised by anything because everyone in a bar or watching over satellite/aerial will be approximately 5 days ahead of you.

Now that I have set up nextpvr feeding into dispatcharr, I can watch with between 2-8 seconds of delay (depends on SD or HD)! Perhaps not quite enough for a penalty shootout, but lightyears better than any other internet option. I did find, however, that the included frequency file for my transmitting station - Crystal Palace - is out-of-date, so I thought I might share my updated file here for anyone who needs it (DVB-T2 channels don't work on the npvr included one or the newest one on linuxtv.org because the frequency is incorrect in both, for example).

I switched my newer Dell laptop from Windows 11 to Mint 22 recently, and wanted a desktop app for ADB. I used to use adblink for Windows which worked fairly well but there was no option for Linux.

A brief search for an ADB gui for Linux revealed a program called AYA. Tried it out and was pleased with it. The program is a .Appimage which is like a Windows .exe. It's a standalone app so it works wherever you decide to put it. AYA has more features than adblink. I think it's easier to use as well.

Of course you can always use ADB from the terminal but this is easier and more fun IMO. Just thought I would share this for any Linux users out there.
Maybe it is me but I could not find anywhere as to whether the set time was A.M., P.M., or Military. THAT was the problem. There should be a notice by the set time box that states it is Military time. Once I figured that out and set the time to military time my issue was solved. Did I miss something? It cold have been so simple, but for me it wasn't. ~ So... My question is: Is there any way nextPVR can put "Military Time" printed next to that box? It shouldn't be that hard. ~ What do y'all think?

I’ve been lurking around here for a while, reading everyone's tips, and I finally spent my weekend getting my NextPVR server exactly where I want it. I'm just a bit excited and felt like sharing the win!
I was struggling for ages with weird stuttering on my recordings. I thought it was my old PC acting up, but it turns out it was just my home network being messy. I moved the server under the stairs, plugged everything directly into a cheap unmanaged switch instead of using the built-in ports on my ISP router, and wow... what a difference.
The web interface is snappy, the recordings are clean, and my wife is finally happy that the TV actually works when she wants to watch her shows. It’s not a high-end rack build like some of yours, just an old Dell Optiplex and a couple of tuners, but it's doing the job perfectly.
Next step for me is to figure out a better way to organize my library (the metadata is a bit of a mess right now), but for today, I'm just going to enjoy some glitch-free TV.
Big thanks to everyone who posts guides here, they really helped a lot!
Cheers.

I just noted that my main Windows PC has a BIOS update and followed up to find out that my BIOS will need to be updated to run with Secure Boot after June 2026. I found this site pretty informative https://windowsforum.com/threads/secure-...in.397238/ so if you use Secure Boot you might to read it. The tl;dr version is trying running this in a powershell admin to see if it is True or False.

Code:

[System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023'
False

I confirmed I had a failing string

I have NextPVR installed on a Win10 machine, using Kodi as client. Works fine (records per schedule, plays back as expected) except for one issue - we cannot get the closed-captions (AKA subtitles) to play. In Kodi, if I click on the subtitle icon, a window pops up showing that they are enabled but that it doesn't have the file... clicking to find the file reveals an icon of the show I'm watching but selecting it appears to load an "unknown" file. Worse, when I try to restart the playback, Kodi freezes and eventually I can get kicked back to the main screen or out the app altogether.

If I am watching the show live with either the browser client or the native client (can't remember which) I can get the subtitles but if it's playing a recorded show it's iffy.

Any suggestions welcome as my wife really needs the subtitles on many shows.

- For Freesat SD it doesn't look like any channels are regionalized, what is the purpose of using a bouquet for them in England (not in Scotland, Wales or NI)?

I'm currently doing TiVO w/CableCARD & also Channels DVR w/CableCARD. I'm looking to replace Xfinity with DirecTV Streaming and it was suggested to me that I check here for assistance. I have multiple Osprey and considered using 4 of those w/HDMI Encoder for recording and Channels DVR. A user there mentioned that he felt NextPVR might be an easier to manage and maintain operation. I certainly don't know and just poking around I didn't find anything that appeared to be what I was told I'd find.

I'm certainly interested and I would prefer I believe DirecTV Streaming for a source if possible.

I'm certainly interested in any other options.

I'm interested in being rid of my CableCARD devices and moving to streaming that would give me 5.1 audio, recording w/com-skip etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
