knewc - Video Resarts and FullscreenRandomPhoto Screen Saver

I was recently forced to upgrade NextPVR from 6.1.3.230521 to 7.0.2.250621
in order to resolve issues with the Schedules Direct JSON support.
I also upgraded from knewc 2.9.4 to 2.10.1.

Ever since, I appear to have 2 main problems:

1. If I play a file under the Videos menu, it starts ok. If I interrupt
the video (Last.Week.Tonight) and then attempt to restart it, the restart always hangs.
I have to stop the video hang, play it from the beginning and skip forward
to my desired location which is a big pain.

2. One of my favourite features, the FullscreenRandomPhoto no longer works - FullscreenRandomPhoto.
When the screen saver is initiated, the Kodi error message "No Favourites Found"
appears instead as shown in the attached photo. knewc stops.
If I press ESC to clear the error message and restart knewc
then the screen saver starts up, but eventually fails again.

Any ideas? Attached are the NextPVR and Kodi logs.

Skip no longer works on NextPVR New Client

I use your NextPVR New Client as my main playback although I do sometimes use Subs app. I have three Raspberry Pi devices plus a mini PC for playback but only use three of them. I have skip forward set to 60 seconds and skip back set to -30 and the UP arrow skips +10 mins forward but that seems to be a default.

Two of the four still work as normal but two plus a clean install on a new SD card the Skip function does not work at all. One of them also displays a row of tiny screenshots above the time bar presumably to select a point start watching again. However it’s no good when you want to jump around 4 mins of adverts! I checked and Subs playback app responds to the +60, -30, +10min skips. All are using the same latest version of the App!

Unwanted Menu Items

I am testing a new NextPVR server but when I connect to it with one of my "New Clients" I now get four extra menu items of no use to me! Is there a way to delete the extra menu items, Live TV, Music, Videos & Pictures? I presume this is something new in the latest version of NextPVR as I am still using the previous version on my live server.

Client Install Problem

Several weeks ago around the time there was a new version of LibreElec I was unable to install the client on a PC and RPi3. The error for both that it could not find any of the dependencies! I tried again last week and was able to install both. I dont know if it is intended but there is no longer a blue background just black. The the new client on the RPi3 had gained 4 extra menu items on the startup menu.

I have just deleted and reinstalled the New Client on both hardware and are running as normal but with the Black background!

I have had to not use my RPi4 with LibreElec 11.0.3 because during startup mode 1366X768X62 is used and running at 62 HZ frame rate locks up 2 of my TVs. I reported it to LibreElec but none of their work arounds worked! The previous version ran at 60Hz which all my TV can handle!!

Unclear how to install knewc and use it in Kodi

I followed the instructions to add the repository and then add in the new NextPVR interface. I then managed to find it (that's actually quite hard as it is not under any of the standard Kodi options, instead you have to drill though add-ins, my-add-ins, program-add-ins and there it is. I opened that and configured it. It all works if I hit the 'run' button which is the sixth step if you ever want to see live TV.

BUT of course it is not available directly in Kodi. I have to go through these six steps every time I want to use TV. Is this the way it is intended? I cannot use the TV link in Kodi itself, it says no front-ends or back-ends are loaded. If I used the old NextPVR add-in of course it then becomes the Kodi TV add-in and works straight away. I do prefer the new interface and its guide so would like to use it, but not if it is this painful.

If I just use the new NextPVR interface it opens a brand new interface which does not support the mouse. Arrow keys on my keyboard and my MCE remote work with it. But there is no movies etc. I can click on 'videos' but this just opens the file explorer. I wanted the movie view in Kodi with the icons for each movie.

So is it 'just the new interface' with no easy access to it and no movies, music or pictures, just a file explorer view. Or do I have to exit the new interface every time I want to use Kodi's nice features and then make the six steps to launch the new interface if I want TV?

I feel I am missing something here

X-NEWA client problem

I have had an occasional problem since last year on RPi3 clients and less often on my mini PC client. The symptoms are sometimes when you quit playback the screen goes black and none of the keys on the remote do anything apart from the top right “Menu” key.

"Exit UI Client" works and takes you back to KODI.

"TV Guide" takes you back to a darker than normal TV Guide but pressing any key returns you to the menu item you used to play the recording.

Exit on the main menu does nothing so you have to use Exit UI Client to quit!

The problem started at around 21:14 on the 10th April. This time I saved the Log file at:-

It seems to be back working today! On previous occasions the solution was to restore from a backup to get it working fully!!

knewc 2.10.0 release

Because of change in Nexus to move to python 3.9 I had to make a change to knewc you should be automatically updated. This change may be backported to Matrix.

Changes UI client

- use python's is_alive() thread function call instead of isAlive() should work in Leia too.
- change to use channel ID instead of channel number for Live TV
- default to UI client mode.

Note there is also a new repo 1.08 since I also had to change it for Nexus after Kodi Team made an unnecessary change in the repo XML format invalidating the old structure I was using.

Menu list skip using MCE remote no longer works

The popup menu activated by the remote key above FF no longer allows you to skip up to 90% of the list in one jump! In "Recordings" pressing the key activates the menu but selecting a number does nothing! I dont know if this is function is only available on the "New Client" as nothing happens when I press the key using Nlite which is the only other client I can try. I dont know if it is caused by a change in V2.9.5 as all three clients have updated. I could not see anything in the release notes that could be relevant.

knewc Timeout Starting Recording Playback

I believe that you said you are going to be making a few tweaks to knewc, so I wanted to let you know about 2 situations where I still consistently get timeouts. Hopefully, you and/or sub can make some adjustments to improve these situations. This post is about the first one. EDIT: I'll post about the 2nd one when I get log files showing it.

When I go to play a recording stored on a drive (even an internal SATA drive) which Windows has spun down, knewc seems to always timeout.

Look in this kodi.log at 07:55:12. (Sorry the kodi.log file is so large. I haven't rebooted that RPi in a while.)

So, it looks like it took 9 seconds for NextPVR to get the fileSize.

On the knewc client, I get the timeout pop-up and click the option to not exit. (i.e. to keep waiting) But, all I get is a blank screen.

The only way that I have found to "recover" is to hit the Exit/Back button which takes me back to the recording list. However, it has the significant problem of then resetting the resume point to 0, so I can no longer resume!

Yesterday New Client would not install on clean install of LibreElec 10 beta 3 because all four dependencies were missing.

Clean install of LibreElec10 b2 and New Client installs and runs OK.

Today updated to Beta 3 and New Client runs as normal but no dependencies are listed!

Does it seem like a problem to report to LibreElec?

Kodi 19 Matrix - knewc is Uninstalled after Modification

Hi,

Under Kodi 19.0 Matrix, knewc 2.9.4 is automatically uninstalled
during Kodi startup with the error message "Error reading end tag.".
This happens whenever the addon.xml file is updated to
uncomment the "extension point" line for automatic startup.

Maybe this is a Kodi 19.0 Matrix bug?
It happens whether knewc is installed via a Repo or via USB.

Its not a huge problem, just inconvenient.

Kodi 19 Beta

As a test I installed the latest LibreElec 10 Beta on my only PC running LibraElec. The NextPVR New Client seems to work OK apart from a problem if WOL is needed. If the server is down the normal WOL popup does not appear just the rotating circle. The server does start but the rotating circle just continues until I cancel the operation. If I now start the New Client it now starts and runs as normal.

knewc 2.9.3 Update

The repo has been updated with version 2.9.3. Apparently I have never been setting the quality parameter correctly in knew or x-newa and as a result UI screens may have been shown with lower quality then possible. This update requests high quality when the option is selected.

Additionally in starting in NextPVR 5.1.1 the quality of 1280x720 screens will improve and it will be possible to use this resolution if screen rendering is slow at 1920x1080.

Finally I have started to introduce long press options on the remote for those with limited keys. The first one I have added is Long Up which should activate the hidden menu. If this doesn't cause any issues with users with sticky fingers I will like introduce more of these. I likely will add more when I test with the Google Chromecast device.

knewc problems with new server patch

I just tried to watch Chicago Fire at 9:33pm, and knewc/NextPVR went sort of wonky. It didn't ever start actually playing. And I'm pretty sure that knewc actually died (or maybe just went into the background) and I was back at the Kodi menu. Then I tried (multiple times) to restart knewc, but it just kept timing out.
