Roku v15 video playback issues.

Further to issues reported in this thread https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=66717 after upgrading to v15 of the Roku OS video playback on the NextPVR channel cause an error starts because the needed API call for closed captions has been removed. It is has been deprecated for a long time so this is not unexpected.

To avoid this issue you need to turn off closed captions in general Roku Settings->Accessibility->Captions mode. I will play a bit to see if there is anyway to enable closed captioning but I am not hopeful.

Incorrect time

Just noticed that on the client side on Roku the current time and guide times are off (+5 hours). However in KODI and webui they are the correct current time. I checked my Roku and Hisense tv and time settings are correct which is EST. I suspect it is getting its epg time from the NextPVR server and not client device? Server time is set to EST as well, plus when logging in to use webui, it displays correct times.

Any thoughts on where to check to fix this?

NextPVR Server failing when Roku client connects

I am running NextPVR Server on a Raspberry Pi 4, Debian 11.11 - Linux rpi5 6.12.36-v8+ #1892 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 7 17:12:23 BST 2025 aarch64 GNU/Linux. Access from a web browser is fine but when the Roku client E11 connects, the server immediately stops running with an error:

/opt/dotnet/dotnet: symbol lookup error: /opt/nextpvr/system/runtimes/linux-arm/native/libSkiaSharp.so: undefined symbol: uuid_parse

I guess this is a backend / upstream nextpvr server issue and I have raised ticket https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/issues/13 but it is triggered by the roku client so there may be something useful to be gleaned from discussion here.

Roku Version 12.0.0 OS Report

Evaluation of the Roku app on OS 12.0.0 working good.
Record and playback works a expected, no issues.
TV guide and setting recordings work as expected.
Video quality is outstanding!
Live TV works, but can only pause or resume live TV, timeshifting is not available. Channel overlay works good.
I may be nitpicking about the live TV not able to timeshift, but for me the Roku TV has it's own timeshift feature, I would use the app
mostly for watching recordings.

Roku and Comskip

Thanks again for this, it has worked pretty well so far.

There are times (not a Roku App issue) where the Comskip blanks get out of sync with the commercials. This may be due to more tuning needed in comskip, antenna issues, etc.

When running NextPVR on the PC, I simply bypass Comskip by pressing "999", and then manually fast forward through commercials.

When running in Roku, I have not found a way to turn off the Comskip blanks when they get out of sync.

Is there any way we can get the equivalent of "999" on a Roku button sequence or long-push? I recognize it is a very limited remote. In our new setup, new location, antenna vs cable, etc., we are having many issues that I am still resolving. But even when all is right, Comskip is not perfect, as the networks doe what they can to get you to watch commercials!

Roku Version 11 OS Reports

After a quick install and test, initial operation on Roku 11.5.0 appears seamless.

I will keep you updated if I discover issues. But it fired right up and played a previous recording without issue.

Roku app disappeared

The Roku app has disappeared from my home screen and I cannot re-add the channel from my Roku account using the code.

Does this mean it's time to consider other clients?

I am a long-time NextPVR user and once a contributor to NextPVR. We had it simple, a single TV with a Windows computer running NextPVR, and an HD Homerun Prime for Cablecard. I have been vary happy for many years. (I can and should do a new donation, as NextPVR has been flawless for us for years)

We are now transferring to a different state, where OTA channels are available by antenna. I have been looking at many options, but keep coming back to NextPVR as the best, known, solution. The Roku app threads appear to be a bit dated since the Roku cancellation, but it appears things may still be active?

Our new house has 3 Roku TV's (One a TCL Roku TV, brand new, and two older TV's with Roku 4K boxes) and one Vizio smart TV (Vizio apps). All Roku devices are new this year.

I am not as concerned about the Vizio.

My desire is to be able to see live TV and recorded TV, with commercial skipping, on all of the Roku TV's and maybe the Vizio. I will probably get a Homerun box that is antenna capable, though my go with an internal card from Hauppauge. Either way, I will operate with a single multi-tuner device on a central NextPVR server.

So, what is the best way to stream NextPVR to the TV's?
1. Is the Roku app still active, and in that case can I get on the trial when the time comes?
2. Alternatives seem to be the Tivo 4k or the ONN streaming box, both Android boxes. Are those a better option? Not integrated to Roku, so another remote, power, etc. If this is the way to go, I assume there are other threads I can find on the forum.

At this point we are not yet in the house, so no need to get on trial yet. I simply want to chart a path forward as we prep for a move.

The first question is the overall approach, whether Roku, Android, or some other solution.

I apologize if this i clear in the forums. Everything I looked at so far in relation to Roku is dated.

I appreciate the effort you are putting in on this, and any insight/direction you can provide.

How do I test out the client?

I am currently using tvheadend with jellyfin, but it lacks a lot of features.

This might be a dumb question, but I am just wondering how I can test out the client so I can potentially switch over to nextpvr?

Hauppauge HD-PVR (Dish)
Hauppauge WinTV 885 ATSC Tuner (OTA)

These Roku's appear to be working fully:
Roku Ultra LT1 4662RW - 38MPS wifi connection
Roku Premiere 3920X 26MBS
Roku Streaming Stick+ 3810X 36MBS

This one has no audio with OTA (AC3?) recordings, live TV works
Roku Ultra 4660X2 - 31MBS

Malformed data -5 On HDHomerun

Hi,
I just set up NextPVR on a Raspberry Pi 4B, HDHomerun Duo and Roku TV. I am so impressed by how much nicer the NextPVR interface is than the HDHomerRun app. However. When I'm watching a channel with marginal reception (a little pixelated but totally viewable) The Stream stops and displays the error: "-5 malformed data" then goes back to the NextPVR menu. I think this might be just with the Roku App. But it could be more general.

Roku Player reverted back to Demo Mode after license install

Hello,
I have the NextPVR add on channel for Roku running.
I have 2 Roku devices on one server, and 2 on another at a different house
I recently got a license for NextPVR via donation. I edited the config.xml file and restarted my Roku Devices. One started working and the other reverted to demo mode. I am attaching the log files. Any help would be appreciated.

I got a Roku Demo Ended on my Roku. If this is a paid app, can someone direct me on where to pay, and how to activate the app?

question on manual IP address

I have a roku and I am testing the roku app. So far it is working great.

I do travel for work and take one of my roku's with me. Obviously the local IP scan wont find anything so imagine my excitement when you could enter a manual address!!

Here is my problem, I am running a port forward through no-ip.com and when I was away I tried entering the address on roku but I could not get it to connect.

Is there a syntax I need to know or is it just not allowed. If it is not allowed, will it be someday?? It would make the NPVR and the roku app system quite handy indeed.
