Sub Titles on PBS via IPTV
Posted by: elifino - 2023-07-10, 07:58 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (3)

I subscribe to DISH Network in a DMA that doesn't have a PBS OTA station.  DISH provides our DMA with the PBS National feed in standard definition.  The nearest PBS OTA transmitter is on the fringe and is unreliable.  I do support PBS with an annual subscription and I have access to PBS Passport, which gives me access to the PBS library.  I prefer to record PBS shows in full HD with captioning.  I've done that successfully for quite some time via NPVR and the PBS National IPTV URL.  I record to a .ts file on the Windows desktop, extract closed captioning with CC Extractor, copy the .ts file to .mp4 with ffmpeg, and stream the recorded program to an Android TV box.  All has worked well until a few months ago when PBS apparently changed their format from closed captions to an as yet undetermined (by me) sub-title format.  The URL will no longer display captions/sub-titles in NPVR, whether watching or recording.  The same URL will display sub-titles in VLC but will not record the sub-titles in VLC.  I've reached the limits of my technical abilities and I'm wondering if anyone has a work-around to get sub-titles working again in NPVR with this PBS IPTV URL.  Perhaps something in NPVR configuration that needs to be tweaked?  I'm attempting to attach the URL in txt and m3u files for reference.

Can't enter punctuation in name of manual recording
Posted by: ElihuRozen - 2023-07-09, 04:18 PM - Forum: NLite - Replies (4)

When I try to enter a punctuation character in the Name field for a Manual Recording, other characters are displayed.  I don't think logs are needed since it doesn't get to the server.  I was trying to use a single quote, but most other punctuation characters are incorrect, as well.  If I wanted to use double quotes in the name, I could use the Page Down key since it produces a double quote.  I tried other keys, but none of them produce a single quote.

  DVBC bitrate on version 6.1.4.230626
Posted by: daneo - 2023-07-09, 09:06 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (19)

Hi Sub,

I ran an update a few days ago, and am seeing something weird - the bitrate for my DVB-C recordings are "off" - I am typically getting 3-4 Mbit (measured with ffmpeg) on SD and around 15 Mbit on HD (ARD, ZDF, etc).  I've noticed in the last two days that recordings are coming thru with typically "low" bitrates for the various channels - so around 3-4 Mbit lower than usual.

This can, of course, but Vodafone Germany playing with my head - and there are of course different episodes/shows shot and processed with different rates - but just wanted to ask if you had made any changes to the code responsible for pulling data off of the DVB-C transport stream and dropping it to disk?  I know it's far-fetched, as the TS capture on NextPVR has been bomb-proof for years, but unless Vodafone is dropping bitrates across the board, updating NPVR is the only change I've made.

Is there any easy way to go back to a previous version of NextPVR to check?

Thanks,
 Dane

Can't get update EPG to work properly
Posted by: SamM - 2023-07-09, 04:10 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (6)

I used to have an E: drive where I recorded TV and updated the xmltv.xml file. So, the recording drive was at E:\ and the update EPG went to  [e:\EPG\xmltv.xml].  I subsequently lost that drive, so I changed the recording drive to C:\users\...\videos, and located the epg updater to C: drive. However, see picture, I can't get npvr to update the epg at the right location. If I put it on a thumb drive (that happens to become E) it works fine. But at the C path, it doesn't work. I delete the E location and remove the thumb drive and restart the service, and the E location channel lineup just keeps coming back like a bad penny. If I delete E and run with only the C lineup, it can't update. It seems to be forcing me to have the lineup on E for some reason, I can't figure out. what am I doing wrong?

NextPVR weird Zoom issue with Kodi
Posted by: three6zerocool - 2023-07-08, 10:07 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (9)

Hello, been fighting recently with NextPVR live TV and Recordings with Hauppauge Colossus 2 card.
Thanks to Martin and Sub, have resolved one issue I was having with severe flicker and strobing.

However, I still have this really annoying issue, where randomly the playing video or Live TV stream in Kodi will zoom up, to the extent it looks like viewing image thru a microscope.
Very hard to replicate, but it does it at random, but only from the STB channels.  (MySkyHDi)

It seems to do it whether I am using 720p or 1080i output from the STB.
It is the most bizarre thing I have ever seen Kodi do.

I am guessing it is somehow losing the aspect of both live TV and the recording, as if something in the video is triggering it.
I think it is some kind of video corruption occuring in the stream, as I notice that Kodi has issues resuming the recordings, and sometimes can not even start playing them.
Then, if I try again, it does play them once more.

Any ideas?.  I know this is a really vague issue, but for me it only started doing this behavior when I replaced my original Hauppauge Colossus card with Colossus 2.

I was watching a recorded show NextPVR recorded rom Sky STB.  3 or 4 times the weird zoom issue happened.
I played back the same recording using Martin's NextUI client (UIDroid), and it does not appear to exhibit the strange zooming issue that occurs when viewing in Kodi.

If I say selected 'Recordings Auto Transcode' in NextPVR server preferences, could this help correct any video stream errors.?

Recording playback fast forward / skip issue
Posted by: shaokong@gmail.com - 2023-07-08, 12:42 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (11)

I am running NextPVR server on the following laptop:

Processor Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz  2.59 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
Device ID 298EFCB8-C150-48C8-8DDE-35722FC55241
Product ID 00329-00000-00003-AA781
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2
wired network

npvr version: 6.1.4.230625

I played back my 2-hour recording on an Android TV Kodi NextPvr client but encountered the following issue:

Fast forward and skip worked until at around 57 mins mark, beyond that point, any fast forward or skip would return back to this 57 mins mark after playback was resumed. For example, when I forwarded to 1 hour mark, after play resumed, it resumed from 57 mins mark instead.

I tired web browser on the laptop as well. It quickly got confused and the time scale got messed up.

I also tried to play the recording .ts file directly on VLC on the laptop. Here are the strange things:
1. The start time was displayed as 00:00, but the end time was displayed as -7:22:47.
2. Using the mouse to click on the time line, all worked until 57 mins mark. After that 57 mins mark, the playback still worked (i.e., it didn't go back to 57 mins mark), but the current play time instant was always displayed as 00:00.

Seems like the recording has some timing related issue? Hope someone can help.

Shao

need help setting up, not able to map
Posted by: SamM - 2023-07-07, 02:37 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (3)

A lightning strike took out my computer, so I had to get a new one, and I thought I knew what I was doing, but I'm stuck. Can someone please help me?

Done steps: installed npvrsetup
Scanned channels from WinTV-dualHD ATSC tuners, copied channel lineup for 2nd tuner.
Recording path set to D:\RecordedTV\
Guide path set to D:\EPG\ where the xmltv.xml file resides, updated from zap2it tv listings.

When I edit channel details, I can't get it to select XMLTV [D:\EPG\] as the source. When I select it, the mapping is blank, and it can't save.
I tried updating EPG among other things, and nothing appears to work.

I've searched around and can't find the answer. What am I doing wrong?

  Version 6.1.4 initial install problems
Posted by: Rich A - 2023-07-06, 09:40 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (79)

Some history: Sorry for long post.  This is a mere microcosm of the extended frustration I've been going through the last several months.

Long time user of the old version 4 application.  Was runnng for years on Windows 10 version 21H2, and after an OS update to 22H2  I started having problems with NextPVR vs. 4.   Was an old HTPC and was starting to have reliability and hardware incompatiiity problems.  So I purchased a new small forum factor PC with Windows 10 pre-installed.   BUT it arrived with Windows 11.  I'm familiar with 11 and have it installed in a couple other PCs and have not had any issues. So I kept the new PC running Win 11 and installed a fresh most recent  version of NextPVR vers 4.  At that time the  new PC was running the then current (several months ago) Windows 11  version 21H2 (which was also same version but different build I was running on the old failing  Win 10 PC).

And Nextpvr 4 was still working okay on the new PC's  Win 11, version 21H2 PC.   I had disabled all Win OS major updates for 5 months and only had the antivirus still updating as I wanted to make sure the system was stable and working to my liking.

Then sometime later in June I decided to turn off the windows update delay and get the Win 11 OS up  to date.   There were of course MANY updates including a few critical ones AND a major OS upgrade from 21H2 to 22H2.    And  that really messed up my NextPRV version 4.   Spent a ton of time trying to get it back to normal.  Finally gave up and removed NPVR 4 entirely and cleaned the system, and  installed a copy of Nextpvr 6.1.4 (23065).

Install completed quckly and was easy, and no errors.    But NextPVR 6  is also having a few major issues.   IMHO, some of the issues might be specific to an under-powered PC.   Too small a CPU and not enough memory although the manufacture said it was good for 11 and it passes all tests.   It's only a dual core Intel Celeron, with 8 GB RAM.   The only main application being run is NextPVR and a brower.  No email or anything else.  Just as it came out of the box from the manufacturer.  NO bloatware etc added either.

But Nextpvr is having a lot of problems with occassional playback issues.   I also found some issues that are common to both the WEB and it's Desktop GUI versions.  I prefer to use the desktop app, but it has a couple problems I can't fix.   And the Web Version has the same play back issues along with some other new problems.   I don't know where to start.   Have blown it all away and re-installed NextPVR and no joy.   I do have a backup full drive image with older 21H2 Windows verson I can restore  (which I think was working okay before the upgrade to 22H2).  But that is likely to have the same problem happen when it ultimatly starts updating it's Windows environment in the future.

Sorry for the long post.   Should  this Windows 11 ready small PC be able to run NextPVR okay?  Looking for advice.  Note I pretty much have Nextpvr set to be a close in configuration as the old vers 4.   Same decoders and settings etc.  But I'm not familiar with NPVR 6 and can't find a lot of the old user  settings as they are no longer available.     I've attached the logs.

With the deskop app.
1. Playback stuttering and freezing once in a while.  Intermintant.

2. scrubbing along time line also causes stuttering, long delays and often freezes screen entirly  Both advancing the playback postion with the mouse OR keyboard direction keys are slow, with jumps, pauses and long delays for the show to continue playing and usually just freezes.  Will usially only work ONCE and  then becomes totally useless until the  time  I start watching another recorded show.   Live TV playing (no jump forward of course) seems okay.  But if I pause it and try to restart or jump ahead the problem starts again.

3. When navigating a "list" of items the program seems to loose it's "focus".   Example.  a list of say 1 2 3 where I have highlighted item #2 if I select it and try to enable one of it's options (like delete the file) it will OFTEN delete not #2 but rather the previous item (#1).  #2 still has the focus and #1 does not but the item with the focus is not the one that is changed.   I've LOST a few important recordings that way.   To "insure" the proper one gets deleted I have to move off the selected item and select another one, and then back to the wanted one and re-select that one.   Usually that crazy sequence will work and the correct Item is then deleted.   Other multiple selection issues are similar.  It's like the programming is loosing it's orignal "focus" occassionally.  Doesn't matter what I'm tring to do.   Can choose a show and it's got focus and I select to view the details of the show I actually GET the details of the privious show in the list ...not the one that was selected.

The Web app version actually Plays better and more smoothly but also has the same problem with scrubbing along the time line or using the arrow KB keys to jump forward and back on the graphical thumbnails.  Stuttering, long pauses and many total freezes.

But more important is that the actual playback of any recorded show does not work at all with the web version.  I get an error that the browser is blocking the play back?

What I have to do to get the video to play is to use the "gear" icon to bring up the settings pop up which has a couple audio settings.  Then just click on "apply and restart" and THEN the video will start playing normally.   But the same other problems still exist when trying to skip forward etc.

So where do I start ?? Help !

Subtitles only stay up for about half a second
Posted by: lost@c - 2023-07-05, 04:59 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (7)

Due to a new person in the house, I have a need to use Subtitles for the first time.  (Long time user).  I can press the yellow key where there is the option for disabled or DVB subtitles.  I can select it and it works, but they flash up and then off again really quickly - like half a second, so unusable mostly.

The only settings I can find in the Config file is the delay and changing this does not solve the issue.

I know, I know, I'm still on V4 but it works so well I currently have no reason to upgrade.  Hey at least I'm not still on XP (even though Win 7 is no longer supported).  Good thing the computer is not connected to a network Smile

Appreciate if my version is too old for assistance but any pointers would be appreciated.
