Has anyone had issues getting Winlirc to work with the Hauppauge remote? I'm trying to use Winlirc so that I can program a more flexible client to control my amplifier and other components.
I have a Hauppauge 350 and recently learned that I cannot watch DVD's because I was doing hardware decoding and the 350 didn't support it. I would like to do hardware decoding and still watch DVD's. Is there a card that will allow me to do this? Or, is this just a limitation of tuner cards?
Has anyone had any luck finding an extension for the Hauppauge remote cable? Due to the IR Blaster, the thing has a 4-post jack design, which seems to be VERY unusual.
I tried to extend just the remote eye cable by splicing another cable into the middle of it. But the wire of the existing cable is so thing and brittle, it's very had to make the connection secure. It was working at first, but something must have giggled the wire and it now no longer works :/
If someone wanted to make some good side money, I bet there would be a nice demand for an extension cable for this.. Seeing as how they aren't available anywhere.
My main machine in the shack runs at 1600 x 1200 but I often remote into it with VNC or the like from the lounge where I only have 1280 x 1024 and have to rightclick on the background etc to change screen resolution.
Is is possible to get a link on the desktop that would change resolution? batchfile, script, reg entries or anything that I could just click on to swap between the two resolutions? I've done some searching but haven't been able to narrow the results down enough to find an answer.
Well, yes, sort of! [Although not for the MVP widescreen issue anymore, now that I better understand the limitations Hauppauge built into the device.]
Sometimes you indicate that certain features are not high priority (for you) to implement. Would this change if you (or we the community) would set up a system for feature "bounties?" Something like "a gift certificate (or cash?) for Sub to buy whatever he wants from Circuit City" (or whatever source you have and like in NZ) to implement feature X.
The bounties would each go into some sort of escrow account and only be "payable" when the feature is implemented.
This might be a better way to judge what features users want and/or need. Right now there is really no compelling way for the community to express the hierarchy of their wishlist items.
I, for one, could probably raise between $50 and $300 (just among 5 users I personally introduced to GBPVR so far) for the feature request I "echoed" here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=23803. However, my one post on the subject may not adequately indicate this is a "significant" issue among the GBPVR users I know. If you had the promise of CASH on the other hand . . . I have a feeling others among us would also be willing to pay into this or other new feature bounties.
[On a related note: I think it would also be very interesting to witness what amount of bounty would inspire you to implement a particular feature request before others. Example: would Sub be more interested in a $2500 bounty for a feature he doesn't care for or a $50 bounty for a feature in which he has already expressed interest?]
Does anyone have an idea of how we could set up an online escrow service for what I am describing above? [In my conception, bounties could grow unbounded in amount -- but would probably have an expiry date of 6 to 12 months after they are posted.]
If Sub is amenable to this idea, we could set up something like GBPVRBounties.com. This site could be a great marketing tool for GBPVR too -- as prolific as Sub is, if he starts collecting these bounties and people are aware of it, more and more would flock to GBPVR as the most responsive PVR project in the world!
Felix
P.S. Additionally and/or alternatively, you could release the source code and a lot of talented coders (I'm unfortunately not one of them!) could help you with GBPVR. I know you have rejected this in the past -- just thought I would put it out there again for your consideration in 2007.
I bought an RF remote from ebay. It's not the official MCE remote nor is it infrared. Most buttons work in gbpvr, but the green button, dvd shortcut button and a few others do not work at all. Is there anything that i can do to rectify this? I have tried using HIP but it doesnt recognize the remote at all.
I haven't played with all the available plug-ins, but I looked at all of them, and I tried our ML2, and it doesn't seem like any music plug-ins follow my way of thinking. I want a directory based music library plug-in that will allow me to randomize any directory and which will include all subdirectories in that random playlist. The reason for this is simple, I have my music in D:\music\, there I have directories for genres, then in each genre I have a directory for the artist, in there a directory for the album, and finally the music. This is a great way to track my library, find things easily, and get to exactly the type of music that I want to play. Sometimes I want to here They Might Be Giants, and so I would go into the TMBG directory and play a random list from all the album directories. Other times I want to hear random songs off of Severe Tire Damage, so I go to just that one album, or I might want to hear all my rock music, so I would expand out to the rock directory and hear it all...
So does anyone have a plugin that will work this way? If not, anyone planning on one and need a beta tester? I can't program (beyond web languages), but I can try stuff out...
Well, I have my system all set up, and there are still some functions that I can't get running with GB-PVR over an MVP.
The MVP doesn't know where I left off in viewing a program. Is this a setting that I missed or something that isn't available in the MVP? Is it because the MVP can't communicate back to the computer for such a feature? Of course, it would be less annoying if I could type in a time to skip to when I start my program, but instead I have to keep hitting the minute forward button to get to where I hit stop (or where the MVP crashed).
I can't get ubustream working, and I don't see any other way to play a streaming MP3 radio stream (I want to be able to listed to wvum.org).
The MVP really should offer a faster version, for people who don't want to wait a second after each remote button and who don't want to have it crash so often. I haven't started to look at those problems yet, but you would think that whatever processor it has is the limiting factor and that Hauppauge would want to improve on it... Of course, having a permanent memory instead of flash would solve any computer-related hiccups, but I think (from watching it start to freeze and then die) that it is crashing because it overloads trying to do too much at once (perhaps based on network traffic conditions or something).
Anyway, does anyone have another plug-in for streaming MP3s and/or a fix for the MVP to remember where you left off in a program? Those two would really help...
my computer is tucked away behind my TV cabinet (the only place it fits) so I was thinking about buying an external enclosure for my DVD player. I would hook up my internal dvd player in the enclosure and connect it to the computer with a USB cable. Would I be able to receive a good quality picture? What about 5.1 surround sound? Is this possible?
I currently have a three year old Dell Dimension 8400 with only three PCI slots, one of which is being used by my sound card. I have a PVR150 and a PVR500 for a total of three tuners installed. I have an unused PVR150 on the shelf.
I am looking to pick up another machine, and I am partial to Dell... It appears thought, that three PCI slots is the max any of their machines currently have. The only advantage would be to get one with a soundcard on the motherboard, so I can use all three.
I am considering a PVR USB2, but since I am looking at upgrading my computer anyways, was hoping to pick one up with more PCI slots.
What's the deal with only 3 PCI slots? They are giving us PCIe slots now, so are there any decent capture cards for PCIe? I could buy two more PVR500's for six tuners, but the PVR150's seem to have a much nicer picture.
