BBC/ITV 'Freesat' (UK) - thoughts/opinions?

I heard about this project recently.

Basically, 'early 2006' the BBC and ITV (jointly) are intending to launch a free-to-air satellite service. One of the main aims is to provide DVB to areas where Freeview is unavailable (and possibly never will be).

The question is this though, anybody know if there are plans to provide extra channels that aren't available (or won't be available) on the current DVB-T Freeview service? I'm currently working towards making my GB-PVR system DVB-T only and I don't really want to find that this time next year, say, I'll need to move to a sat. dish and DVB-S capture cards in order to get all the channels.

Just curious to know if anybody has heard/read anything more than the basic announcements on the BBC and ITV websites.

You might want to take a look at http://www.digitalspy.co.uk, they tend to be a good source of this sort of information.

I suppose it depends on how much of the current analogue bandwidth is sold off after switchoff in 2012, if too much is sold off there won't be any space for more DVB-T channels

The current Freesat system already has other channels available although for some reason on DVB-T More4 is free but you have to pay on Freesat

Most people seam to equate satellite = SKY
