This is not the problem in my previous post, I have been doing manual updates of the epg because of this problem.

Also this is not a GB-PVR problem directly. GB-PVR never gets a chance to do the update due to this problem. I just hoped since it is a suspend issue someone might have an answer.

I have my pvr computer going into s3 (suspend to ram) sleep mode and I can wake it with my mouse and everything is fine. It also wakes itself to do recordings but I haven't observed it during a wake for recording so I don't know if the screen is working or not. The recordings themselves are fine. The problem is that when it wakes itself for epg updates (1:00 pm EST) is doesn't fully wake up. I wakes and the drives spin up and you can hear activity neither monitor nor tv get a display. Then approximately 1 minute later it goes back to sleep. I checked the logs for GB-PVR and nothing happened at 1pm in any of them. I did note in the system log that the wireless network card established a connection so I don't think it is a network issue. I did read a MS KB article about waking from hibernation and going back to sleep 5 minutes later but that doesn't apply since I am not using hibernation (S4) and it is going back to sleep in about 1 minute.

If anyone wants more information about S3 sleep mode or other suspend issues you might want to check the forums at

I am starting to wonder if this may be an issue for GB-PVR itself.

As it stands if I wake up with the PS2 mouse both displays (LCD and TV) come up and the network reconnects. Also testing sleep mode with a program called sleeper that just sets a wake up time and then puts the computer to sleep works perfectly.

But, last night I checked when GB-PVR woke up to record and both displays were still off. Also I checked activity on my router and the wireless card had not come back up either. The recordings come out fine though.

So something looks like it is different between how sleeper registers its wake up request and how GB-PVR does the same thing. This weekend I want to check sleeper with a longer sleep time and also double check GB-PVR's wake up to record.

Now of to read more about S3 suspend mode and using the RTC to wake up again.

I can't get the TV guide to download either after a wake from sleep. In my particular case I think it was because there was nothing to trigger an internet reconnection over my ADSL line. So GB-PVR does an internet request that is never answered and gives up.

In two weeks time I will have Telewest broadband cable internet which doesn't require a dial-in to get an internet connection. If it starts working then, at least in my case, that is the problem.

Incidentally, I have also noticed that sometimes when coming out of STR sleep that my PC has real difficulty getting an internet connection.
GB-PVR 1.0.16 (recording service and database) running on: VIA EPIA 5000 (533Mhz), 512MB, 40GB HD, PVR-150MCE, USB-UIRT controlling Sky Digital box.

GB-PVR 1.3.11 (front-end and client for above) running on: Toshiba NB100 netbook 1.6Ghz, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM.

Front-end viewed on 2xMVPs (using mvpmc dongle).

I am using a wireless pci card and with its confirguration utility it wouldn't reconnect at all. I changed over to xp's wireless zero config and it does a good job of reconnecting after resume. I just saw where it woke up today at 5:54pm for its 6pm epg upgrade. The problem is it immediately goes back to sleep which is very weird.

You will like cable internet. I had adsl before cable made it to my neighborhood and while it worked I never liked the on demand connection. I really like my always on cable via cox.

My two providers had it the opposite way around. The cable provider made us "dial in" (or at least we had to log on to the network, really ugly style), while with the adsl provider we're up and running when we plug in the cable.
I'm not always right

I'm begining to wonder if the screen saver feature that was added to GBPVR somehow affects the downloading of the EPG. Any thoughts?

Well I still can't figure out why mine goes back to sleep 1-2 minutes after waking for epg update but I found a way around it.

Using windows scheduler I set calc.exe to come up about 5 minutes before my scheduled epg update. While I could never see anything since the screen doesn't come up it did do the update according to the log and then susended again after the normal delay.

This will at least keep everything running until I figure out what is actually going on. If I figure out something better I will share it with everyone.
