Currently, when the GBPVR GUI is running, write access to the Main Menu background image file is denied.

Would it be possible to allow replacement of this file while GBPVR is running and have GBPVR load the new background image the next time the Main Menu is displayed?

I would like to replace the skin's background from one of the numerous, periodic, batch files, like PostEPGUpdate.

I could write a small program to shutdown GBPVR.exe and another to restart it but to me this seems prone to problems--it would cause grief for someone, sometime.

Unfortunately this isnt something I can retrofit to the application and have it magically work across all plugins (internal and external). All plugins would need to be changed. They currently all load and cache the background independently.

Actually, my concern is limited to the main menu. I use two background files, one for main, another for the plug-ins.

Thanks,
David

For a quick understanding of where I'm coming from and how some of your users might benifit from a revolving backgrounds feature, please visit my web site http://starling01.home.mindspring.com/Th...ction.html.

tipstir Wrote:Well I had a plugin so you could change the background while GBPVR was running but that stop working as the next version of GBPVR came out so that idea just went into the two XSKIN PLUS and XSKIN PRO that had given the user 10 skins to choose from. But I want the user to be able to not choose the background but to do the buttons as well. I might have the xmas feeling and make a holiday background like you did for my XMEDIA DX, but the skins have to work with the Media MVP..

It seems we're on similar tracks. While re-skinning the plug-ins for The Collection, I have placed all my buttons in the skin's directory i.e., "...\skin\Christmas". The thought is that at some point they could be rotated as well as the background.

The problem is that this would require cooperation from all of the plug-ins, something that won't come easily or quickly.

Perhaps I should expand my wish to include a global variable, a flag, suggesting that the plug-ins flush their cached skin images.

By the way, I believe The Collection works well on the MVP. There may be an issue with smaller than neccesary font sizes which I have explained in http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=6...ostcount=5. When I have enough feedback( or an MVP), I should be able to address this. In the mean time, I'm woking blind with respect to the MVP.

Best Regards,
David

I have to build a stand-alone HTPC just to run your skins:-)

While your at t with changing backgrounds on the main menu. I'd like to set up different background for special days (birthday's) and normal random mode on other days.

I used to have a desktop changer for Windows that did this, I believe it randomly took images from directories and on the special dates the images
come from a directory with the date in it.
