Does anyone have a clever way that they sync their main GBPVR installation with a secondary computer such as a laptop? I know there is no gbpvr functionality that provides this as of the present.

I was thinking of using a program like syncback to copy over files (including the gbpvr program folders and a transcoded recordings directory) to my notebook on a regular basis. If anyone has a working setup I'd be curious as to how you do it.

I think I'd be great if there was some module that could be added which would permit scheduled backup to a notebook or other portable device in a transcoded format. I think the same technique could also probably be used to move properly transcoded files to a video iPod, although I do not have one.

I don't have a 100% working solution on syncing between gbpvr and ipod video yet, but I have had some thoughts as to how it would be possible to easily integrate the ipod with gbpvr.

What's basically needed is:

1) some way to easily encode to ipod MP4 (H.264) format.

2) Some mechanism to copy the files to the ipod.

Regarding 1, I think some clever scripting in postprocessing.bat, and the right software would be enough (it would be cool, if the encoder also were aware of the commercial-skip file generated by showanalyzer or comskip)

Regarding 2, I think the simplest way would be to just generate an XML RSS feed per show (a video podcast), which could be incorporated into the existing web-interface as "Subscribe to ......." link. Then the client (iTunes) would do rest of the work regarding syncing, checking for new updates etc.

The biggest thing missing right now in this "puzzle" is some kind of good/fast encoder, that understands when to skip commercials etc. Making a podcast is pretty easy (since it's just an RSS XML file).

I would have used rsync;-) I have been looking at starting a video podcast from my wiki (it is supported in pmwiki), but have not found the time yet...
Please let me know of any progress.
