I was going to post a wish list for upnp play but had a slightly diffrent suggestion.

The first been if GBPVR could support upnp devices so it can read from them and add to the its available media list.

The second was to support upnp nativley as a server too so that you could access music / video / recorded TV / all other connected upnp devices from GBPVR... this takes away the reliance from WM which TBH I don't like.

It would sort of mean that these upnp media centers are supported by GBPVR... a plus as far as I see.

I have seen a post by Sub before indicating that he had written code for a UPnP server integrated in GB-PVR, but it is not available to us.

I generally view my GB-PVR recorded media through my UPnP server (TVersity). TVersity has a nice web interface that allows you to play media across the network. I don't think that you could play the media on an MVP so easily, and I always figured that if I wanted to view it on the PC, then I can go directly to the web interface instead.

On the other hand, I've been looking at the UbuStream recorder pointed to the RSS feeds (with media enclosures) provided by TVersity to "record" internet feeds that look interesting. My Internet connection is not quite fast enough to view video from the internet directly. "Recording" it could solve that problem. I hadn't thought about connecting directly to a UPnP server, but I bet the RSS feeds could remove the need.

Only because I decided it wasnt worth spending the time to finish it. It just seemed to make more sense for users to use specialty UPnP servers like TVersity.

If all I was working was a UPnP server, I could write a damn good one, but given how much functionality I'm spread across with GB-PVR, the most you'd get was a half-arsed one, which didnt seem worth it.

I agree with your sentiments. GB-PVR does exactly what I want it to do. It records shows and it work for weeks without problems, unless I manage to introduce them. Probably longer if I would just leave it alone. Smile

The TVersity developer(s) have been talking about adding TV tuner support (in the future) and I keep directing them to GB-PVR for that functionality, as they will never catch up in that area. I'd much rather have them make the best UPnP server they can. TVersity is still pretty young and they have some areas of basic functionality that they need to concentrate on before adding new flash and bang. But it is already better than most of the UPnP products I have tried.

I'd still like to get GB-PVR and TVersity to work a little closer with each other, but I am really not sure what exactly I would like to see in that area. Maybe a better way to notify TVersity of new content when GB-PVR finishes recording. Maybe more meta data in TVersity from the GB-PVR database for recordings.

BTW, the new TVersity release this last weekend now supports the Xbox 360, though not video. I don't have a 360, so can't remark on quality.

When I say server I mean as in files / media only no interface... eg for those that dont have an MVP like me but say have another Upnp device in another room and watch recorded shows / music etc.

I'd rather have one simple app instead of a number on the server...

Yes, I know what you mean. Read what I've said above. There are already tons of UPnP servers that can give you access to you files etc.

Agreed! If I would keep my hands off the "inner workings" it would run fine for months on end... oh well. I'm geek, and I can't help but tinker! Big Grin

I use Tversity for my Netgear MP101 to access music files held on my GBPVR server. The two programs work alongside each other seemlessly.
I know what you mean about 1 app, but with the two working fine side by side 2 apps is not an issue.

I switched to use Tversity because WMC1 doesn't work with the MP101. With WMC1 it could play a single track then the MP101 would lock up!
I've not tried WMC2 to see if this works any better ( I suspect it wont )
