Stuttering playback

My MVP had been working great. Smooth playback with no problems. A few weeks ago I did the yearly reformat and reinstall thingy and shortly after I noticed that when I play back my captures thru the MVP about every 2 or 3 minutes, the video goes stuttery. It stays in sync and gets fine but then it does it again. I have my recordings on a separate drive and it has plenty of room and is defragged regularly.
The files play fine directly from the computer. Anything else I should look at.

Did you install the same version of the MVP software onto your rebuilt PC? Also, did you disable or create exceptions in your firewall rules? Just some ideas...

Yep, same version. I'm going to reformat the hard drive I keep my video on and see if that helps.

Did you test the videoplayback on your PC first to see if you're getting the same effect. Also have you make your network tweaks to your NIC yet. If you're back to defaults things won't be the same.

If not...?

Video playback on the pc was fine. I did notice that while I use Diskeeper to keep my drive defragmented, it was still heavily fragmented so that's why I'm going to reformat and try again.
I've not done any network tweaks....I'm open to some hints at tweaking. What did you have in mind?

Well, none of the above worked so I'm back to ideas. Specifically, the network tweak parts if you please.

This key didn't exist on my machine (Dell Dimension 9100 w/XP Home-SP2), so my assumption would be that it would be "zero" or enabled, but I made the key anyway and set it to zero.

I did a few network tweaks I read here and on the net and so far, I see improvement. I need to tweak a bit more but I think I'm on to something now.
I appreciate the tips and the arrow pointing me in the right direction.

As for the DVD recorder, I'm not there yet but plan to get one someday when I grow up
