Thanks for all the help folks. Alan Birtles RT grabber is my preferred choice as well.

I just realised what a dumb question it was when I asked if the EPG could be grabbed from the Sky box - of course the feed into the capture card is going to be UHF isn't it? Not a digital programme stream. Doh! :o

I'll have a look at what it would take to auto-dial my mate's ISP for listings downloads.
