I'm a newbie, just a few days of use so far.

Last night I config'd GBPVR to do XviD conversion overnight.
When I got up I looked and there were AVIs in the directories with the MPG (I told it not to delete originals).

The AVIs will not play, VirtualDub says they have invalid video frame data. I use this machine to encode XviD video *all the time* so I'm pretty sure the codecs are installed and working.
Any ideas?

As an aside, I renamed the AVI hoping GBPVR would revert back to the MPG. Instead, the show disappeared from the "ready" recordings list. I renamed the AVI back again, and the listing is still gone, so I guess I've just lost that entry on the nice listing. I'll probably just reencode the shows manually and put them in the video library area.

Is there a way to have the system revert all those shows it converted to AVI back to the MPG version? Sure wish GBPVR used MySQL, I'd know how to deal with that.

Open the gbpvr.mdb in MS Access and update the database manually - AFAIK it works like this: When GBPVR starts it checks what files are availalbe - If a file listed in the database is not found on disk it is assumed that the user has deleted it outside of gbpvr and and deletes the database record, therefore making sure that when browse your recordings you can't see any shows that don't exist...

Just a quick question, how big are the resulting AVI files?

I found that a couple of long films were terminating at 1:43:33 whether I encoded them using ffmpeg or mencoder. It seems that the library that both of those programs use has a 1GB limit on the output avi. Files much bigger than 1GB were refusing to load in some other typical avi players. What happens when you try to play them back in media player?

David.

I don't think I have Access. I'm only familiar with it as part of MS Office, which I don't have. Is there an Access chunk that ships as part of Windows 2000 or something?

About 640 megs. All players I've tried (Media Player, BSPlayer) just show black and sit there. VirtualDub does its usual complaining about VBR audio and warning about possible out-of-sync issues, shows blank frames, and gripes about invalid video frames if you try to hit play.

GSpot says it's XviD, doesn't say anything bad about it (either video or audio), claims I have the proper codecs and filters, but the render test doesn't work.

I don't have Access either, but you want to run queries against the database you can use any query tool that uses an ODBC data source. Setup your ODBC data source in the control panel and query away. I like the free SQuirrel SQL Client http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net/

Thanks, I'll look into that. SQL I can deal with.

if you're using ntfs to store the recordings, the info is still in the alternate stream and can be re-imported to be just like it was Smile
there's a link somewhere on the wiki about restoring the info from alternate streams..found it..
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=11685&page=3&highlight=alternate+streams
it's very recommended to use ntfs for storage drive because of this and a few other reasons...[cluster size, higher max single file size for those 4gig+ dvd's]
hope that helps, really made my day when i found it.. Smile
