Just getting started with this whole PVR thing, so I hope this is not too trivial to ask (I searched around quite a bit, though).

My plan is to get a Plextor TV402U and hook it up to a little server PC, that is sitting in a closet. That server PC is supposed to record and store the video files. Playback is supposed to happen on a number of wirelessly conected PCs/laptops (and maybe through a MediaMVP in the future).

GB-PVR can be installed on the server PC and takes care of the recording etc., but I wonder, if there is any client software, that can run on the client PCs and allows convenient access of the GB-PVR features on the server (kind of like a software version of the MediaMVP)? The BeyondTV LINK software provides this kind of functionality, but I'd very much prefer to use freeware.

Thanks!

not officially... but you can config gbpvr as network client:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=6132

and scorpion2k started to implement a software mvp client. unfortunately, he left the comunity quite some time ago and my attempt to contact him by mail failed...

you can download the latest version (highly _pre alpha_ status!) here

AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

Oops - just when sent this off, I saw the thread about the client installation thing below. But I didn't get, how to make GB-PVR run on the client PC without the config.exe getting in the way (I installed it on a machine w/o TV tuner device and it just doesn't run).

GBPVR does not support the networking thing by default. However because it is cleverly build in a few separate programms and services it can be configured by editing the config.xml file manually. The main trick is to change the drive names on both the server and the clients in UNC paths (after having made the video, music and GBPVR directory itself available as network drives). You can find a perfect description how to do so here:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...hlight=unc

I did the same on my machine and can do everything except live tv preview as I have not unchecked the live tv mode on the server (it is directly connected to my main TV). BTW live TV mode does not write the mpeg to disk but plays the captured movie directly making channel changing very fast.
Regards Koen,

PVR500, PVR150 & PVC150 MCE MediaMVP D3A, 2 networked clients
