FLAC, lossless audio playback on MVP

I would love to be able to play FLAC files on my MVP.
FLAC is a widely support lossless audio format for those who are not familiar.

I would like to play these files on my MVP without transcoding to a lossy format like MP3.

Does the MVP play PCM or WAV formats natively?

I would like to add this functionality, maybe in a plug-in.

Could you tell me the version of L.A.M.E. this includes?

The current recommend version of L.A.M.E. is 3.97 beta 2 as listed below:

I was considering building a plug-in that would do a CBR transcode at a high bitrate if I couldn't play PCM / WAV.

If you find a way of transcoding (or even build a plugin ) please post it, as I would also be very interested in a solution.

Transcoding will be the only option, as the MVP HW only supports MP3.
