I just upgraded to 0.96.8 tonight. I was having some connectivity probs with my MVP and thought I'd do a re-install, but went for the newer version too. Everything went OK with the install (haven't checked the MVP yet) but I can't see my recordings. I have a bunch of TV recordings and the only way I can see them are as videos, not in my recordings menu. I have set up my TV Programs and Live TV Buffer in config to point to the old location, but no luck yet. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA
Zach

BTW I love the new look

The recordings are stored in the gbpvr.mdb database. If you install over the top of an old version of gbpvr, the recordings in the database will still be there.

If you removed/renamed the folder and installed into an empty folder, you will have a new (and empty) database.

Also, whenever gbpvr starts up, it checks that it can find all of your recordings. Any that it cannot find, get removed from the database.

btw: if you go have the old mdb file, you can;t just copy it over to the new version as it will not have been upgraded by the install process.

It's a good idea to keep a backup of the database file, along with the config.xml file. I always keep a copy of the entire devnz\gbpvr folder.

search the forum for mpegimport, a natty little utility that enables you to create an xml file with your recording details in, and then import into the database via the import option in config.exe.

thanks for the help. I got them all imported into my upgrade. So if I had the foresight to export my recordings before I deleted GBPVR, would the descriptions have come over too?

Yes that is always a good idea. I remembar about %80 of the time...

You still might be able to get the desctiptions. SUb added metadata to the actual mpgs a while back. it can be extracted, then imported, and all will be well.

you should be able to recover the show description.

Check if you have a recording-dump.xml file in yout gbpvr directory. This is automatically exported each night after the EPG update.

Sub, I do have that file i my directory. It woud be ice to be able to recover the descritions. I'll prob not kill myself doing it now, but I am setting up a dedicated machine (drive is formatting right now) for GBPVR. I'll more likely worry about it then. In the mean time I'll read up on that thread that gEd posted.

Thanks all.

The recording-dump.xml would have had all the descriptions the day you had the incident, but its so far after the event now that this info is probably lost.

On the day you noticed the problem, you would have been able to use the 'import recordings' button to the put the recordings back in.
