I have my remote setup so that I can put my machine to standby with the push of a button. Does anyone know how to turn the machine back on using the remote? Is this possible? Any other suggestions how I could do this?

Thanks

This may or may not work, But under Device Manager, Select the IR receiver, and under properties, if there is a power managment Tab, You can De-select "allow the computer tot urn this device off when instandby" and select "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby"

If you are using S3 (vs S1 where fans are not turned off etc.) standby then you probably also need this registry hack to allow USB devices to wakeup a PC. Not sure if it will allow your remote to do it but it will certainly allow a USB mouse.

If you use the usb-uirt you can ask their support for a utility to do this. They have one.

I certainly want that, but what do you mean by "utility"? A background task looking for USB-UIRT or...

Not using USB-uirt, but that looks pretty cool. I have a hauppauge card (PVR250) and I can't find the IR receiver in the control panel. Any ideas?

I don't think you can wake up the computer (easily) with the ir receiver that came with the hauppauge card. I think I remember someone sometime talking about rewiring the thing and connect it to some pins on the motherboard, but then you got the machine to wake up on any ir signals, which might not be what you want. I ended up buying a wireless mouse/keyboard. The mouse wakes up my computer with a press on the button.

No problem. I think I found the answer. It doesn't work with the hauppage card. Thanks everyone for the great input. I might just look into the USB-uirt
