To free a pci slot, and unable to use it in a 64-bit OS, I stuck a nice pvr350 in the old intel, currently housing an ati550 theatre.

How do I get gbpvr to use the pvr350 as the primary, and the ati550 only if it has to?

I find the quality of the pvr350 to be better, that's why.

The pair record together fine; they're doing it now. I don't know which is capturing what, but I could probably tell by looking at the finished product. Also, the ati550 has an occasional problem with tuning the channel, where it can be more or less off-channel. The pvr350 has never done that, and it doesn't drift, either.

From reading so far, it looks like this simple thing can't be done. I'm on 95.16 (old machine, old software). I could always just pull that ati550, but as a backup, it's useful... but not as a primary.

To find a device for recording it works its way from the top of the capture source list down looking for a free device with the requested channel.

For live tv it goes the opposite direction.

Just to add a little to this, the gbpvr.mdb database has a table called "capture source" which has a field named "oid" which is an autonumber field.

If you take a default install of gbpvr and add the first capture device, it will be oid 1, add the second it will be oid 2. Then if you remove the first one and add it again, it will now be oid 3 such that you'll have id's 2 and 3.

I spent way too much time swapping mine around by removing them in config and then re-adding to then find that a plug-in assumed that the first one was 1 and upwards and thus kept failing my recordings. That plug-in has now been fixed by looking back, I wish I'd looked at this architecture first because I would have probably just tweaked the database back to 1,2,3 instead of the 4,6,7 that I have now.

So, when Sub says that it's the top one for recording and the bottom that gets used first for live Tv, he's referring to the capture device with the appropriately numberd oid in the database.

You said you don't know which is recording which, why not just give each one a meaningful name in the config app and notes what's doing what in the system tray app?

David.

I'm referring the capture source list in the config app. There user doesnt need to look in the database.
