Manage Recordings, Play Program, WMP hangs waiting for video stream

I've dug around for the last hour trying to answer this question on my own, but I give up.

Anyone know how to make the "Play Program" work from the Manage Recordings web page?

I use firefox which has an option for me to select the external VLC player.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When I press the "Play Program" button Windows Media Player comes up and says "Connecting" but the video never starts playing, plus Windows Media Player has to be forced to close, generating an error. You know one of those that it asks you if it can send to Microsoft?

My assumption is that I don't have something installed, like a streaming video server software or something. I am confused since the "Play Program" button is there and apparently willing to do something.

You need to have VLC installed on your client PC. The streaming is built for this rather than Windows Media Player
