Discounting skins that rely on task images, what is your personal opinion on task images?

I like them I think they add a little something to the screen, that said I think they can slow things down.

Looking at the skin's out there now they sort of go in two directions. Some are more visually interesting, using task images and other visual treats. The other option is informative like ContourHC it displays lots of info in an easy to read format.

I like both, but if I had to chose I guess I go the Contour or Blue route. Clean simple, Enough info on the screen to make me and the wife happy.

Depending on the complexity of the skin, they can either be just eye candy and not needed, such as in skins that are already full of graphics, or they can be very useful for a skin that is simple and depends on the task image to lead the user to the right selection.

Like Tipstir said above it's a skinners, and i'll add a users choice as well.

I think that task images can be a vital part of the "compositon"
Whay dont skin designers sign the designs like painter do ?
It is reallly difficult to make something that is balance so it will be informative a have a good look. Torque really made a bod balance in the main menu. But I think the design controls the sub menus to much so space is waisted.

Hesr is something I was playing around this weekend when having a hangover. Difficult to get a good balance between object....now when live preview also shold fit in somewhere.

This poll will remain open for quite some time, but I can see a trend developing.

I realize it is the option of the skinner to provide, part of themes, layouts, ect. I just was curious as to what users in general felt about them.
