Dumb question: Does that mean that after I've installed the new update to replace the new files w/ my backups.?

No Dumb questions. If there were, I'd be bloody well stupid!!!

After backing up the config.xml, and gbpvr.mdb, and installing the update, back up the new config.xml and gbpvr.mdb that the update created.

Then put your old data back.

If sub changed the structure in the GBPVR, or config.xml, you'll have a reference to compare...

So, your backing up your old data, AND your new data, replacing the old data into the gbpvr, and if you're having troubles, comparing old to new, to find the differences...

No, you shouldnt need to copy these files back. The upgrade procedure attempts to retain all your personal settings and recording lists. This backup is only recommended in case something goes unexpectedly wrong and you loose data.

If you ever do need to restore these files, they can only be restored to the version that originally created them. They are not portable between releases.

You shouldnt need to do any of this unless you've had major problems with an upgrade!!

Afaik you should not put back GBPVR.mdb and config.xml after updating. You can only do this when you re-install the same version.
Of course you can use the files to compare with each other, as you mentioned further in your post.
