Problems with video playback

I posted months ago about a stuttering playback problem when using my MVP which never was a problem before I did my yearly reformat and install in January. I did try the network tweak and registry change which was not present and it did appear to help out a very small bit but it's still such an aggravation, I end up simply burning my mpegs to dvd. Not the fastest/easiest solution.
Other things I've done is defrag....my system is not heavily fragmented and Diskeeper keeps it that way. Nothing is running while I'm playing back the files so that's not a problem. The files are on a separate drive with over 100 gig free and play fine on the computer and burn to dvd fine as well.
Question-would a firmware upgrade to the MVP help? Any other ideas?

Thanks sub, I've tried some of what's mentioned but will dig deeper to see if the other suggestions work.

also try lower the recording bit rate. I view everything over the 54G wireless bridge and the quality on TV did not suffer much.

I took a good look at my NIC driver and realized that when I reformatted in January, I allowed XP to pick up the card. The driver was a little older than the current one on Dell's site so I updated the driver and I see an immediate difference. I'm going to test this with a few files but looking at a 4 g mpeg (best quality), I'm seeing what I saw before the reformat and I like it.
Thanks for the link sub. There was a link in the link to shs's forum where someone mentioned things I've already tried but talk of the NIC sent me in the right direction.
