Does anyone know if the 400GB Samsung HD400LD hard drive is currently available for sale in Europe? Google only seems to list various European websites, none of which are in english...which makes things difficult for me to read.

I'm getting ready to replace the hard drive in my Hush PC, and given this is the only thing with moving parts in my PC (ie, the only thing making any noise), I want to do it justice by making sure I get the quietest large hard drive I can.

Can't see it on the sites I usually use here in the UK.

Found a few shops in Germany (neighbour-country) who said they could deliver. Found none in the Netherlands, well I found a few but they didn't have in stock. Cheapest I have seen in Germany was 270 Euro.
Seems a lot compared to the HD300LD which I saw offered for 99 Euro in the Netherlands. I guess sending it to NZ won't be cheap.
If you want to know more just askSmile .

Yeah, I had feeling it'd be expensive since it is large, three platter, and only a recently released. I thought I'd seen some slightly cheaper (245 Euro). My hush PC can only accomodate a single drive, so I'm keen on 400GB - even though I was initially tempted by the 300GB model. Its expensive but worth it to keep my main lounge PC as quiet as possible.

There also seems to several at .ch domains. What country is? Is it Swiss? I dont want to guess and get the currency conversion out by too much.

Nah, I was particularly after this Samsung three platter 400GB drive because its quieter than any of the other current large drive options.

I've been listening to comparison recordings of the various disks during idle and seek. I've seen the Seagates seem to be getting a lot of bad comments these days at http://www.silentpcreview.com, particularly for the newer 7200.9 Seagate. There seek noise is not pleasing.

I've also contacted the Hush PC guys who now sell models with these large drives, and these are the disks they're recommending, both for its acoustic properties, and the amount of the heat they generate (no fans in this PC).

I actually got two machines with Antec Sonata cases, and one using the newer Antec Sonata II cases, but these are development/test PCs. They're nice relatively quiet cases, but nothing like the Hush PC I've got in the lounge. Literally the only thing that makes any noise at all in this machine is the hard drive...no CPU or chipset fans, no case fans, no power supply fan. It's awesome.

I leave it running 24x7, and its nice to have total silence in the room when you've got the TV off reading a book, or if you've got guests sleeping on the fold-out couch bed.

This PC is only as loud as the hard drive I put in it, so I want to do the best I can to keep it silent.
