Im new here so please bear with me.
Im using a PVR-500 MCE to record shows off of cable. when i go to burn the mpegs to dvd i get errors everytime. I've tried burning the file before editing out commercials and after takeing them out to the same result. Im trying to use Nero 6 to burn the dvd (dvd+r's) and womble dvd mpeg vcr and mpeg video wizard dvd to edit. I know Nero doesnt like putting mpeg to video dvd but it should do it as a data dvd as i did manage to get one to burn many weeks ago but that has been the limit to my success. Im running Windows XP SP2.
Any suggestons?

Thanks
John M.

You need to author the mpg's properly, then burn.
Try DVDLab, Tmpgenc DVD Author, or any number of other good authoring programs. Plenty of tutorials on http://www.videohelp.com
You can never have enough tuners!

I often take mpegs from my MCE500 and go directly into DVDit or Roxio and have no problems at all. Same with Nero. Can you post record settings? Maybe they can be tweaked. I'm not familiar with codecs but that could be the problem as well.

Within Nero I select make a data DVD, select my file, next, write speed is set to 8x (maximum), multisession unchecked, verify data unchecked. the error message only says that the burn has failed.

How would i be able to check what codec is being used or even change that. I looked in the GBPVR config and i didnt see anything there.

I also have Roxio Videowave 7, which works somewhat but i dont really like it. I can get a disc to burn but it wont even work on my computer then and of course my standard dvd player wont have any of it either.

My understanding of this is somewhat limited but I have been succesful using these two methods.

A data DVD is not going to play in a dvd player.

If you have a PVR500 then it should have come with something like Ulead movie factory or ulead movie maker etc. This software will automate the authoring and allow you to make a proper DVD. I've used it and it does work.

I use videoRedo for my editing and it allows you to save the edited file as a .vob. I don't know but, Womble probably has the same option. Then, I open this file in dvdauthorgui http://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl

Finally, you will have a file ( .iso) which can be burned to disc using nero etc.

I would follow reboots advice and check out videohelp since everything I know about this came from that site.

A data dvd is just data, not a DVD video.
Choose the DVD Video template, then drag and drop your file.
Nero will re-encode the whole thing, which will probably screw up the audio sync.
Try authoring with a proper piece of software first, then burn using the dvd video template in Nero.
Even Ulead will work. Download from hauppauge if it's not on your pvr-500 disk.

I bought the card from a friend so i dont have the disk. I checked out the happauge site and i did not see any downloads for Ulead (didnt really think that they would have a full program like that for download)
And thank you everyone for all your help.

I'm quite sure that on www.videohelp.com there are freeware tools that do what you want. When you go there check the Tools-tab on the leftside of the page.

If you do have Nero, try using NeroVision and use the 'Make DVD' then 'DVD Video'. Import your mpeg, make any adjustments you want to the menu and burn as a DVD Video Folder or ISO. That has always worked for me though I do use EMC8. TMPGEnc has a trial too if you want to try it.

Oh, I forgot that reven's my videos plugin (check here: http://reven.co.nz/index.php?option=com_...&Itemid=53 ) has a dvd burn routine builtin which uses free software.

I have used this in the past and it worked great.
