Hi all,
I've used GBPVR in the past and liked it alot. I've only just found out that it supports MVP aswell.
Probably a bit of a dumb query....
I was wondering what features of GBPVR can you access via MVP.
Main thing I want to do is browse and set recordings on the EPG via the MVP using the remote. I'd like to be able to use the PVR functionality without having to sit at the PC. PC will have an as yet undecided tv card with freeview capability.
Users of the MVP should be unaware that the PC is serving the video, pics, etc.

Thanks
Alan

The most important limitations are no DVD playback since the MVP does not support AC3 sound. You can either either transcode the DVD or use a plugin that transcodes real time. It's called XDVD.

Mpg support is great, divx and other types of files have to be be transcoded on the fly as well by the PC. This requires a fairly good PC.

Good news is, I've used GBPVR over 2 years without having to use the PC except for tweaking the app and playing with plugins. You'll get a very rich interface on the MVP that matches the PC experience, except for the limitations I metionned above. So you'll have access to the guide, recordings, live TV, timeshifted TV, music weather Etc. just as you'd experience it on the PC. I'm extremly satisfied, MVP reliability has come a very long way since I started using GBPVR.

Thanks. That sounds good to me. DVD playback will be via a normal DVD player so I can get 5.1 sound etc anyway. Its the PVR functionality I'm looking for. VCR is on its way out so this is good time to move to a PVR solution.

Also, it can not play xvid/divx natively. GBPVR will have to transcode them on the fly, too, so you'd need a decent computer to handle that.
I'm not always right
