Ok so ive just got a Hauppauge NOVA-T pci card and after many scans and looking through the settings the only channels that get picked up are BBC 1 and 2, CBBC and bbc news 24. A friend of mine that lives a few hundred metres up the road from me gets all or alot of the channels fine with his set-top box and older aerial. I live in rotherham and if i select sheffield transmitter i got those channels and nothing if i select emley moor.

Can anyone help please?

What channels can you pick up with the Hauppauge software in your machine?

Same channels. I forgot to say that they aren't very smooth at all either. I think i saw somewhere that the bbc channels have no frequency offset and thats the only reason i can think of that would explain why i can only pick up bbc channels. Was the uk registry patch only for older versions of the software?

If you're only getting the same channels in the Hauppauge app, then it just sounds like you've got poor DVB-T reception.

There were some tuning issues with very old Nova-T drivers relating to offsets, so make sure you're using up to date drivers. If that doesnt help, I think you're going to need to improve your reception somehow.

digital terrestrial is very picky about reception. Do you need to adjust the aerial, to point it more accurately towards the transmitter? Here in Sweden there are aerials that, even though they are new, are not made for digital broadcasts, and hence only get about half the channels. Is your aerial a "digital" one? One thing to try is to get your friends set top box over to your house and see if that one works? Or your computer/nova-t over to his house and test it there...

FoZZiE - just to re-iterate what others have said. DVB-T is more directional than analogue and tends to need a higher gain aerial so make sure you've got a good one and that it is pointed as directly as possible to the Rotherham transmitter. I'd go and stand under you're mate's aerial with a compass (seriously) and try to get your aerial aligned in the same direction.

As sub says, get the latest drivers. The last time I bought a Nova-t (about 6 months ago I think) the CD that came with it had the v1.2 drivers on (way out of date and nasty). The latest version is v2.4A here http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/downloads/Forum/DVB_2_4A.zip.

Cheers,
Brian
