When I'm watching live tv with GBPVR, the little nVidia Purevideo decoder appears in my task tray which tells me that everything seems to working just fine.

However, when I'm watching a recorded program, the nVidia task tray icon does not appear. Does this mean the Purevideo decoders aren't being used during playback of recorded programs?

Can anyone else using GBPVR with purevideo decoders help me out? Thanks.

There is some situations where the nVideo PureVideo icon does not appear in the task tray even when it is being used. You can check which decoders are being used by looking in gbpvr.exe-native.log.

The Purevideo icon only appears in the task tray if it was selected as the "default" decoder. If you explicitly selected the Nvidia decoders in the GBPVR playback or DVD config then GBPVR will in most cases will use the Purevideo decoder but the icon will not appear in the task tray.

If you did want the Purevideo icon to appear in the task tray you must ensure that the Purevideo decoder has the highest directshow "merit", meaning that it is the default directshow decoder, then configure GBPVR playback/DVD decoders to be "default". You can use a utility called Radlight Filter Manager to change the directshow merits of all the decoders installed on your PC. If you are not bothered about having the icon in the task tray then don't bother playing with the directshow merits.

It is very usefull having the Purevideo icon appear because it allows easy access to adjust the decoder properties.
