Electronics Hardware design engineer.
With the move towards integrated systems on chip and FPGAs its getting more like a programming job everyday.
After 20 years its still fun.

30 years of applied research and product development in high speed data acquisition and analyisis systems.

Patents in Mechanical and Electrical Systems, but none in software. But I once gave a presentation on User Interface design at Sir Walter Raleigh Hall. That was when I learned that I am not a public speaker!

I'm the guy people call so they don't have to call the helpdesk & sometimes when they call the helpdesk they tell them to call me.

I don't if it's because i'm very good at my job or the helpdesk is very bad at theirs.
IT Support, too. Also a musician on the side (but it doesn't pay all the bills Smile). I have the luxury of being able to tell people they have to call the helpdesk first - except when the country where the international helpdesk is shuts down for three days to mourn the death of an actor.

Actually, the main helpdesk is in India - we have a second one in Canada, but I think it's much smaller, so not may calls get routed there (even from Minne-snow-ta Smile). The last company I worked for in St. Paul had 100% internal helpdesk - a real rarity, indeed.

The band I just joined does a lot of Southern rock (ZZ Top, Skynard, SRV) and classic rock (Areosmith, etc), and I sing a lot of Heart and Fleetwood Mac with them - interesting mix, huh? lol... Actually, people seem to like the mix. The three guys I work with are incredibly talented - this last weekend we did "School's Out," "Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)," and "Blister In The Sun" by request off the cuff, so these guys are really good.
