I'm quite new at this, and am looking for someone to point me in the right direction.

I've installed the Music Panel plugin, and it does not seem to be working. I've noticed it is not listed among the other plugins in config, although the .dll is in the plugins directory.

I'm running 97.9 with BaseSkin. The BaseSkin\panels directory has a MusicPanel.xml.

What is the next thing I should check?

its not a plugin, its a panel, that means the skin you are using MUST support it.

there is no support for the blue plugin (well not in the original release), this requires editing of the mainmenu\skin.xml file and i didnt want to include an updated skin.xml in the zip, incase it replaced a version you may have modified.

So now I understand why it does not appear in the list of plugins. I'm glad to know this is expected behavior. Certainly one could understand how a newbie would think it is a plugin since it is downloaded from the Plugins area of the Wiki and since the installation instructions include copying the dll to the Plugins directory.

I'm actually using the HDeeTV theme with BaseSkin, and it comes with MusicPanel.xml already loaded in \skin\BaseSkin\Advisor.HDeeTV\Panels\.

Do I still need to modify the mainmenu\skin.xml? If so, is it as simple as copying the CompositImage and SpecialElements tags from your sample?

I think there is a newer version of the panel than what was on the wiki as a separate download. This thread is where I saw this.

I don't know where version 2 can be found separately.

FYI, not all plugins will show up in the plugin tab in the config app. There are several "panels" available and they don't show up there because there really is no need.

I believe all themes for BaseSkin support this panel.

I now have the newest version of the panel (got it by installing My Music 3 RC2--see reven's sig), and the panel still doesn't work (but the My Music plugin is nice).

the my music 3 installer should install the panel AND edit the main menu skin.xml so the music panel does appear, of course you have to check "install music panel" in the installer (this is checked by default).

the reason why its there on the wiki is simple, theres no where else to put it Smile

Sorry, I was wrong (as ususal:p ). Not all themes use this panel. I don't have a copy of this theme on my Laptop right now to check and it is midnight here.

I am going out of town tomorrow for an air show, or I would post a "fix" for you.

If you feel comfortable editing the main menu's skin.xml file, you can add this in it. Yes it is as easy as the example. Near the bottom of the main menu's skin.xml file you will see <--Plugin Panels--> with special elements there.

You can paste this in that area:
Code:
<SpecialElement name="Panel" panelName="MusicPanel" visible="true" transparency="1" loc="30,405" size="650,65" />
(You can use Reven's example code as well) Just adjust the loc= and the size= by playing around with it until you find an area that works for you. The example I have will be probably not far enough down if the skin is 1024,768.
Try a loc of "30,600" or something like that.
