Seeing as how it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the plugins I use to work properly with the skins I prefer, I'd like to request that support for ID3 tags and embedded album art be added to the default music player in GBPVR. IMO, adding these small features would make the default music player PERFECT. It would also eliminate my dependance on half hearted plugins once and for all.

I do intend to provide my own much improved music player plugin, but it probably wont be included in the next release.

Glad to hear it. I look forward to that day, whenever that may be. Big Grin

Ouch!!! As one of the 3 (or 4) developers of the 4 or 5 music players that are floating around GBPVR I find that a fairly harsh comment.

If there was something missing from the plugins I'm sure the developer would welcome suggestions to make it better.

Cheer up Psycik, I like your MusicLibrary2 very much, it works very well and doesn't look half hearted to me at all. Maybe Daphatty only did a half hearted trySmile

Sorry psycik. My comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular so please do not take it personally. I am just frustrated that many of the plugins I would like to use aren't written with the end user in mind but rather the developer himself. My frustration goes beyond the music playback functionality of GBPVR. That just happens to be the focal point of my request.

I realize that coding plugins isn't easy and making them universally available is a monumental task. I would never expect any developer to undertake such a challenge, especially since they are doing this of their own accord. That is why I have asked sub for this feature. When he implements new features in GBPVR, they just work.

yes I also realised this, and didn't want to go near a flame war. Smile

But surely when sub implements something, it's normally to his own wishes and on blue skin as well. i think that's why he (so wonderfully) put in the API and the ability to skin, cos not everyone wants the same thing.

And so when somebody can develop, sees something with GBPVR they don't like, they put their own bits how they do want it. And because this is a free/Community based project that's kinda how its going to work - it will normally be to that developers wishs. Sure when asked for features most of the developers will try to accomodate (unless they have to chuck out about 50% of their code to do it Smile ).

The main bit that i found strange about your comments it the ID3 and album art, as far as i know, all of the music plugins do and have supported this for quite a while (i.e before i actually wrote ML2), both ID3v1 and v2.

So really no offense taken, I was just surprised at some of the comments about core functionality, because as far as I know, MOST of the issues with plugins are to do with underlying gbpvr changes (especially lately with .net 2 and sql-lite - these aren't sub's fault, and will make things so much better in the long run) and skinning. But even though we tend to get access to the pre-release versions to try and get our plugins up to scratch, it's still a hobby, and we all have to work so sometimes it takes us a little longer than it should.

Hey, dont bring me into this. Usually issues with plugins are just bugs of the authors own making...except with this most recent v0.97, yes - the move to .net 2.0 and SQLite had an impact on plugins. Ignoring this release though, many plugins written way back in 2004 have still worked unchanged release after release. The main problem is usually skins not supporting a plugin.

Also, I've always told developers not to directly access the database, knowing that at some stage we'd be changing databases. If this suggestion had been heeded things would have been smoother with the transition to SQLite.

Having these big ticket changes out of the way, I'm hoping we're about to enter a golden age of prevailing carm...

Sorry, i wasn't trying to implicate you - that why I said But even though we tend to get access to the pre-release versions to try and get our plugins up to scratch, it's still a hobby, and we all have to work so sometimes it takes us a little longer than it should.

I'm hoping we're about to enter a golden age of prevailing carm... - so do I - i'll get to use my gbpvr system, not keep adding stuff to it!!! Big Grin

Forget the skins you would prefer. I just skinned My Music 3 Release Candidate 2 from Reven's web site for Plain Jane. Go try it.
