I am currently running comskip from my postprocessing.bat file which also calls comclean. It is doing a good job finding all the commercials, and consaquently, comclean is cutting just as comskip tells it to.

Alas, it seems comksip is also cutting small portions of the show that was recorded. Is there any way to "tune" comskip at all? I can deal with a snippet of commercial here and there if I can get it to leave the entire show. At most I miss 15-45 seconds of a show. That's not huge in most cases, but it is for a show like "Lost". Smile
Thanks!

Yes, comskip is highly tunable via the comskip.ini, but you'll never manage to tune it so that *always* cuts the commercials perfectly. At the end of the day, it has to guess where the commercials are and sometimes its going to get it wrong. This is why I recommend just using the comskip files to skip playback of those sections during playback rather than physically removing them from the file.

There is a utility, ComSkipPad, that will pad the commercials: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/Comskippad . You can set it to pad however much you want at each end of the commercial block. I think it would serve your purposes.

I think there is a setting for that in comskip.ini: padding=x
x is the number of secs that are shown extra at the start and beginning of a commercial.

I hear ya sub, but I thought there were some variables that I could add to the *.bat file. When using the remote to "skip" commercials that comskip finds, what button is it? Is it just the regular "FF" button? Thanks again sub!

I will give the settings a try and see how they work for me! What are you guys using as settings? 10 seconds, 30 seconds... somewhere in between? I apprectiate the feedback, and thanks again!

Comskip is infinitely tuneable. It can take a while to get it right though.
Do a search for some of the other comskip threads on the forum. There are lots of hints, and some comskip.ini files you can try.
You can never have enough tuners!

You may be thinking of the channel number variable that is passed to PostProcessing.bat or ParallelProcessing.bat. Some people have used that to specify a different comskip ini file for each channel.

You usually dont have to do anything. If you were watching a video file that had an associated comskip file, it'll automatically skip to the end of the commercial when playback reaches a commercial. This only happens automatically once for each commercial, so if comskip got it wrong, you can always skip back and rewatch something that was automatically skipped the first time.

When you press the blue key to bring up the OSD, you'll notice the timeline shows the commercials in a lightly darker green.

Thanks reboot, I will look at the *.ini!

sub, you are correct. I was expecting to have to hit a button as I have never watched a show that was just "comskipped" and not also "comcut"... does that make sense? Big Grin I will set it up tonight and give it a whirl. Thanks again, you 'da man! Smile

I agree with sub that using the auto-skip function in GBPVR is the only way to go. I’ve never understood the need to risking auto-edit on every show?
ComSkip’s very good (I even have it tuned by show name and channel #) but if a program’s worth archiving, its worth two minutes in VideoReDo.Big Grin

if you have auto-skip disabled in the config, the play button will skip to the end of the commercial section.
