Lines running horizontally on tv

I have been trying everything to get rid of lines running accross my tv screen. Its not because of gb-pvr, because it does it when the desktop is showing on the screen. I'm running a nvidia 6800 graphics card with a hauppauge 500 tv card. The card capture awesome and playsback on my computer moniter perfect. I'm using clone display and have tried all different resolutions. Can't get rid on them. Picture looks pretty good besides the lines. Not sure if their scan lines or what?

Are you using a quality sheilded video cable or the cheapie that comes with most DVD players?

Possibly my cables i'll try that. Seems like 50 or better lines running across the screen. Thanks for the quick reply, belive i'll try the cable.

The thing ive always wondered is why cable quality is so imortant for a video card, yet any cheap cable will do to give a good picture with a DVD player or cable box.

The same went for my old creative labs DVD decoder card.
The speaker cable thin RCA cable gave an amazing solid picture on my TV.
The same with the thin cables that came with my MVP.

Is it just a matter of video chip quality or does it have something to do with the relativly high power emanations from a PC vs. a Set top box?

It's all about the amount of sheilding which is present in the cable. More shielding = more expensive.

You can use the super thin cables and there may not be a problem - but if you have any electricial wires hanging around - thats where you start to get 50 lines.

Electrical systems (in NZ anyway) run at 50 HZ - so each flip of the AC signal gives you a line. On projectors, I think you see this interference as a rolling horizontal line.

As mvandere said that little device should stop the interference.

If you look at inside your PC case, the wires inside, leading to the front inputs etc probably have a magnet around them to ptotect from just this sort of thing.

Similarly, and we are approaching the bottom of the barrel now, whether the PC is plugged into the same power point as the TV may have an effect.

I had this exact problem.
Turned out the PSU was the problem & swapping it out made a big difference.
If I plugged the PC into a different socket via extension cord, perfect picture.
If I plugged it into the same outlet as the tv, lines.
I actually think it was the fan in the PSU.

Turned out was the cable or the s-video-composite adapter. Switch to just s-video everything looks great. Thanks guys
