there is a utility called dirmon that can "watch" a folder and then kick off a script that can convert the mpg file.

search the forum for dirmon, there are a few threads on this topic

I'm looking for an all-in-one no-prompting solution for converting my mpeg recordings to wmv.

I want some software that will behave itself and not sit there waiting for confirmation when errors occur - it has to just get over them and continue on.

The solutioin will run on a computer that just hangs off the network and lives in a cubpoard, so it doesn't have a screen or keyboard or mouse attached (it runs windows xp and I remote desktop to it when/if I need to).

The idea is that I drop mpeg recordings onto a share on its drive. It automatically realises there are new files that need transcoding and using the predefined defaults it just does it. I don't want to have to start the process off manaully. I want it to just happen by virtue of the fact that files have been added. If a file is in use (e.g. it is still being copied in, or is corrupt) then the system would ignore it and maybe try again later.

The program would convert the file, drop the output file into a different location on the computer or network, and then delete the input mpeg file.

Does any one know of such a solution or know of the tools that I can use to put such a solution together?

p.s. Think of me as someone who doesn't know what you're talking about when you start quoting bit rates and codecs and audio formats and stuff. I don't want to know how things work, I just want the end result.

Thanks Smile
