Hey guys.. I'm in the process of converting some camcorder tapes to digital format. Without going into specifics, I'm using GBPvr to record them as manual recordings. I have a whole bunch of different 'clips' in each manual recording.

What I'm trying to do is isolate these clips and save them out as seperate files. I don't want to reencode to divx, wmv, or anything. I'd just like a quick and easy way to select the portions I'd like for a given clip and write it out to disc. I've searched the forum and have found suggestions of TMPEGenc editor (has problems reading in my recordings) and Virtual Dub Mod (which works but takes forever to reencode).

I really thought this was going to be easy but it's turning out to be a beast. Can someone offer some suggestions? Oh yeah, and I'm not really looking to spend any money on a software solution. I know, I know.. "Quick, easy, cheap .. choose two".

Take a look here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=107#107
I think mpeg2cut works quite well, no demuxing etc.

the other option you can use is the "nanocosmos MPEG Tools for Hauppauge" software - you have to run it on the machine with the Hauppauge card installed but other then that its free - ive used it to cut out crap from recordings. you can download it from the hauppauge website or i think its on the install cd.

cheers

When I converted my VHS to DVD, I edited them with Video Redo. There was a free 7 day trial. I got them all done within the 7 days, but liked it so much that I ended up buying it anyway.

VideoRedo is probably the best, but as you said: not free.
